Pretty funny movie, sort of the Spinal Tap equivalent of folk music. Anyone else seen it?

A lot of the "Spinal Tap" people are in the movie. Extremely funny.

I think all of Christopher Guest's movies are great.

Agreed. If you haven't seen Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, they're enjoyable too. I didn't like the more recent one as much...name is escaping me right now.

I love the line in A Mighty Wind where that woman asks, "Is that where they got the idea for the big trains?" or something to that extent.

Yeah, I'd say Tap and "Best in Show" were his best, but all his other films (featuring pretty much the same ensemble cast) are good to great as well.

My stepfather had a hard time watching Mighty Wind because it hit way too close to home- he's an old folk-rocker who was in "real bands" a long time ago but now just hangs with other old, bald, spare-tire-gut guitarists trying to relive the good old days.

Edit: Now that I think about it, that last Guest movie "For Your Consideration" was entirely forgettable. It had a few brilliant moments, such as when that one older actress gets all the plastic surgery, but otherwise everything (including the name) is easy to forget. I hope his next one has more pizazz!

I actually don't even remember the part you're talking about, of course I don't remember much of that movie. Wholly forgettable was the best way to describe it. His other movies have been pure gold though. Pretty consistent quality.

That movie was great...

"I love model trains"
"Oh yes they are great. I mean without them they wouldn't have got the idea for real trains"

Yup. That one disappointed, but to be honest, so did A Mighty Wind the first time I sat through it in theaters. "It's just not as funny as the last two."

Since then it's grown on me quite a lot, however. I think that much like myself, Christopher Guest's movies are growers.

Ranking:

1. Waiting for Guffman
2. Best in Show
3. Mighty Wind
4. Spinal Tap
5. That one I've already forgotten the name to again, even though Bongo just mentioned it, but that's really just how forgettable it was.

I'd put Spinal Tap at the top, still, but I otherwise agree. The three prior to the last one are vastly underappreciated. I need the box set.
