Anybody ever freeze their milk in the plastic gallon containers?
How long, did it taste funny after thawing?

| | | | I recall my wife telling me she has done it. Once it thaws out completely it should be back to "normal" again. (I suspect I've been given milk that has been frozen and never noticed anything.) It probably keeps a long time in the freezer.

It shouldn't be a problem so long as it's in a decent container. Like boynamedsuse said, you shouldn't have any problems with taste and it should keep a good long time.

When the ice crystals freeze, they will only be pure water, and will exclude the other milk components. When it thaws, it might not mix exactly as it was prior to freezing. Try it out and see.
And if anyone is trying to make a cheap version of ice cream - it won't work. The key to ice cream is making the ice crystals VERY small. The smaller the better. Left to its own devices, the ice crystals in frozen milk will be very large. |

It does expand though so I'd be careful if you try a full unopened container.

| | | | I don't see why it would be that much different when thawed.
Forgive me for asking, but I'm wondering...what's the point in freezing milk? Trying to beat a price increase, live a really really long way from the store, never know when a couple dozen folks are going to drop by demanding corn flakes?

The component of milk that expands is the water. I have done it and it takes forever to thaw.

| | | | My guess is that "time stops" for the period it is frozen. That is, if you froze some for three months, once it is thawed, add three months to the pull date.
