This summer/autumn im going to travel the mighty mississippi by kayak. Im going to make a documentary about the trip, for Norwgian tv. Any fellow tbers who live close to the river? ..if so. Are you interested in meeting and perhaps say a few words about you and your town, city, farm, pueblo to me and my camera?

If you can make the Mississippi bend over to the Colorado and from there take access route #33 to the San Gabriel River I will stand waiting for you with 2 frosty cold mugs of delicious Stone beer and speak at great lengths about the town of Hacienda Heights, and how our people settled here after roaming 7 miles from the West Covina.

Ok, sorry, Im no where near the Mississippi.

When you get to Vicksburg, I'm about 40 miles away. May not be close enough for the documentary, but certainly be glad to buy a tb'er a beverage of their choosing!

Cool concept. I'm not from the area, but I had family that kept a house boat on the river. I spent a few weeks one summer early 80s between Saint Paul and where it was docked somewhere north east of Cedar Rapids Iowa. It was one of the coolest summers of my youth. We started from NJ via car to Niagra Falls, west through Canada and around the north side of the Great Lakes and down through Minnesota to Iowa. We spent a week on the family farm near Cedar Rapids and ended with the river trip. We left days after school ended and made it back just in time to start again that fall.

The generation of Family I was connected with have all since passed and I really don't know any of the distant cousins

LOL I thought those were outlawed. Where will you sleep each night? I doubt you can just hop ashore and pitch a tent.

Well, 10 years ago, I lived in Baton Rouge, just a few minutes from the river, and I would have been very happy to have you come visit and treat you to some good Cajun cooking, as well as some good beer.

Unfortunately, I now live about 1000 miles east-northeast of there now.

Sounds like a great trip, one that I've actually considered a time or two. Enjoy!

Ooh, cool! What kind of kayak? Are you bringing one over or buying it here? I have an Impex Assateague (but don't live near the Mississippi).

It would be way to expensive to bring it over, so the plan is to buy one over there. The prices are also much lower in the US, then here. How much did you pay for your Impex?

I honestly don't remember - it was about 3 years ago, and I got a really good deal. I'm going to guess around $2600-2800.
Here's a good place in the Midwest to check out:

Are those big head Asian flying carp in the Mississippi? Wear head and chest protection if they are.
