I have some .mkv files that I need to convert to .avi. Is there any converter you guys know of that will freely convert the full videos from .mkv to .avi (or any format playable on a PS3)?

I found this program, or try pervian that is a quicktime plug-in.

Possibly the single most awesome file converter available for windows machines and it's totally free. The site is somewhat jumbled so the link is right to the page with the download on it. It's at the bottom of the page.

This. This. This. This.

It has replaced Handbrake as my go-to converter tool.

I'm giving it a try... hopefully it will let me save the videos from my digital cam to another format without quality loss. I've tried other converters and let's put it this way, the result was garbage. By the way, I've noticed ads for the avs video converter... yeah... that one sucks.

it will make it whatever quality you want, in whatever format you want. All codecs are pre-installed.

Good to know. There's always a distinction between hype and reality. If it lives up to its claims I'll be ecstatic. Because there's nothing I hate more than quicktime when it comes to video.
