Has anyone had Absinthe?

I had my first drink of it 5 years ago (when it was still illegal) at a gig where my friend was the bartender. They had a bottle that someone brought in to the US for "personal use".

As of last year Absinthe with actual Wormwood was legalized as long as the Thujone content was below a certain limit. I found out that a restaurant I play at a lot has a bottle of Lucid Absinthe, I had one and I am hooked again.

Mmmmm The Green Fairy awaits

It has a mighty buzz (124 proof) that is light and pleasant, in no way overpowering, and suprisingly clearheaded for how buzzed you get.

Any other Absinthe fans?

I have a bottle of lucid too, and I find it quite delicious. My friends got me the bottle for my birthday when I was between scotches so it was a nice thing to have mixed in.

How do you drink it? I've just been adding a drop of water or dropping in an ice cube and pulling it out after a few minutes just to drop the temp and make it swirl.

I prefer Pernod...I know Pernod makes an Absinthe but I'm not sure that I got their absinthe. I'm in Canada...there isn't the same restriction on the Thujone content as in the USA

If you know anyone in Saskatchewan Canada and are looking to get real Absinthe (not Absente) into North America, there's a law in SK that states that anyone can import any kind of alcohol as long as they buy at least one case.

So it would be easier to get Agwa to you as well!

Absinthes are like whiskeys, they tend to vary a lot from one manufacturer to another.. plus there's a bunch of cheapo "cocktail mixer" brands, especially those imported from Spain and Czech Republic. So it's a good idea to taste around.

Personally, I like to blend it down to about 20-25% alc.vol. (40-50 proof) with water, and add a spoon of sugar.
