I have a couple of lever action BB guns that are leftovers from my kids. They work ok, but they are pretty weak. Can you "hot rod" them?

Might dry a dab of oil on the seals inside the barrel. Chance are they're dry. I haven't been inside one, but there have to be seals attached to the lever by some mechanism.

Incidentally, don't ever try firing one of those with the lever handle hanging down - it will pop up and take a chunk out of your hand. Don't ask how I know this...just clip it in place before firing.

Well, I think that every boy that owns a lever action BB gun does that. I did it...once!

It would probably be possible to put a stronger spring in it, but the longevity of the gun would be affected. Definitely oil the seals, that may bring up the velocity a little bit, and is always good to do.

If you want a more powerful cheap bb gun I can recommend the Daisy 880. It's very plastic-y but is much stronger than the Red Ryder and can also fire pellets. I think they're about $40.
