The other is a variation of yours, but one my pastor says from the pulpit every now and then:

Sitting in church doesn't make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a Chevy.

Yuma is remarkably short on colloquialisms, though. No interesting regional phrases that I'm aware of outside of, "Yeah, he's on Yuma time" when someone shows up 20 minutes late for something. I hate that expression.

I know what you mean man. If i didn't listen to the second one, i wouldn't be able to be friends with a bunch of guys I know - It's not about what you've done or where you've been, but what you're gonna do and where you're gonna go.
