Turns out my mom dropped the mother of all bombshells on me last night.
She wants to move to Margarita Island Venezuela by the end of the year.
Shes talked about this before, but now shes talking about visas and learning spanish.
The big thing is she wants ME to go with her. I think it could be cool. I know the cost of living (for americans and other tourists) is quite cheap. A beer will run about 20-40 cents and DSL on the island is around 35 bucks.
What I really want to know is. How much are guitars and basses in Venezuela? anyone know or have an idea?
Other then that I want to go, I just need a change of scenery so bad and I'm about fed up with Florida.

One problem you'll find with an economy that charges 20-40 cents for a beer is that jobs pay 2 bucks an hour.
Get Rosetta Stone for learning spanish.

My mom is about to retire and im 35.
I know the hospitals are fantastic, the political climate on the island is fine. We both have researched all of this before.
Crime is pretty low, not like the mainland.

Moving to a country and not speaking the language will not get you very far - 6 months in you'll feel completely alienated and will not have anyone to talk to other than your mother.
Of course, you could always stay in the US. Just think....parents are in another country and you don't have to worry about them breathing down your neck anymore!

Instruments in Venezuela will run you a pretty dollar.
What will you do for work?
Do you want to start all over?
Any experience with Spanish?

PM me and I'll see if I still have any contacts there. There used to be a substantial English speaking community, and lots of European tourists; not sure if that still holds though.

Lots of messes to clean up, lots of broken stuff to mend / fix / replace, lots of complaints about 'hair here there etc.' followed by 'I want all / some of my money refunded!' (and at least half the time this will be said AFTER they've spent several days in the room...) and all sorts of other lovely experiences. If neither of you has been in the 'hospitality' industry before, you need to take at least a few courses in hotel management, etc. Otherwise you're going to end up making the sorts of mistakes that can sink you, but which could have been prevented if you'd taken a few of those management courses...
