Monterey, CA: what to do?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hullo there my friends.

I haven't been down to Monterey in a while, so I think I might go down this weekend with a friend. I really love the city, the atmosphere, the coastal weather, and everything about it. There's always the aquarium, Canery row is nice, but further than that I'm at a loss- what to do, what to visit? I was wondering if anybody here could offer some insight for some nice places to visit with a friend ( ). Are there any beaches or coastal specific areas that would be nice to see? Or any specific parts of the city? Any help would be greatly appreciated

The way I see it you only have two options; surfing or golf. But on the bright side, they've banned tow-in surfing at Ghost Trees, so that should make things a little more peaceful. Now all you have to worry about are the 25 foot waves.

Breakfast or lunch on the clubhouse patio at The Links at Spanich Bay is a spectacular view. Carmel has some great restaurants, and a walk along the beach is very nice.

If you're into wine tasting, Carmel Valley Road has a number of wineries back in the canyon.

If you're a golfer on a budget, the Pacific Grove muni course is a blast. The back 9 is links style out in the dunes, and as close as you can get to playing Pebble Beach without the tremendous price tag.

Yes. It's not as well known as Maverick's, which is kind of consider the Waimea of California, but Ghost Trees gets just as big, and manages to kill a surfer or two every year. Someone google it and post a pic for me. I'm on my iPhone.

Ok now this is an odd and painfully specific question, but does anyone know a good place to get coffee in Monterey?

go scuba diving. Amazing wildlife in the Bay. I'm definitely going to next time I'm up there.

Plume's on the corner of Franklin and Alvarado. Right down the hill from the Presidio.

I lived in Monterey for about 1.5yrs...loved it!

There's a music store called Bay West Music. It's not that great but it's pretty much all Monterey has to offer. It's on Fremont St.

Here's some of my favorite spots to eat:
Breakfast: The Breakfast Club, 1130 Fremont in Seaside
Lunch: Campano's, corner of Prescott Ave and Taylor St (it's aconvenience store with the most badass sandwiches ever)
Dinner: I dunno...hit one of the places on the Wharf.

My personal favorite places to eat there were Pizza My Heart and Papa Chano's. Rocky Point is pretty sweet. For cafe's there is this little French Bakery downtown; I forget the name, but I think it's off of Franklin. Comano's was already mentioned, but besides the sandwiches they have some awesome and huge cakes as well. Seriously, the whole town is tourist trap so if you drive down the coast or walk around the downtown areas you're bound to find something.

+1 on Point Lobos.
Elkhorn Slough - trails, wildlife, birds, photography and kayaking. Rent a boat and paddle among the otters.
17 Mile Senic Drive - I used to skate it, but a bike would be fun as well.

You could visit my nearby birthplace and let me know if the locals have erected a monument yet.
