Good for them. Embracing technology to allow for greater sales instead of fighting it.

Dispatch managed to gain their popularity ENTIRELY from the likes of Napster, and now when they get back together for a tour, they manage to sell out large venues in a few days. Not bad for a band on an independent label who just recently gave away their entire catalog for free just for spreading word of the tour.

On a smaller scale my band (see sig) is embracing the creative commons. We record our rehearsals (all improv) and make them available via soundcloud and torrents. It's the best way I've found to get honest feedback and create a quality presence on the web. When we get a real record recorded we will no doubt charge for it but in the meantime; anyone with the where with all and the desire have the ability to listen to our band evolve.

EDIT: I just realized this is a 2 year old article,...jump the gun a bit.

It looks like it's no longer on their site, but it was before the tickets finally went on sale.
