Nothing new here. Bernie Machen, president of UF, when speaking on behalf of his fellow SEC presidents, basically said this two weeks ago when they announced they would not be extending an invitation to Texas A&M at that time.

Until Baylor stopped it by threatening legal action.

The Big XII is crumbling whether Baylor wants to see it or not. Their little step in cost them a spot at a decent BCS league until their coach or president is out.

It is my fervent hope that Baylor taste the business end of realignment. They backed into the Big XII due to an alum being the governor. Rice, SMU, Houston, and TCU were left twisting in the wind. It has taken 15 years for TCU to return to a worthy conference. The other 3 are still wandering around in the desert.

Here's hoping the Sun Belt has a spot for you, Baylor.

If Baylor decides against screwing TAMU and this move does happen, what do SEC fans here think about the rumors of WVU being the 14th member if MU isn't?

It seems WVU fans are torn about the idea. The security of being in a major conference would be nice if 16 team super-conferences are inevitable.

West Virginia is not in the Southeast, neither is Texas A&M. I don't like either team coming aboard.

Should super conferences form I can definitely see their names changing to reflect the new geography.

They definately need to change conference names. OSU, OU, UT, and T.T. are not in the Pacific, and that is where the rumor mill says they are headed. Though I would like to see a little big 12 domination in a highly overrated conference. We should get a little taste of things to come on Thursdays game of Ok state v. Arizona.

True.

I suggest they rename the SEC to the BEST Conference.

Texas was part of the Confederacy and the region where Texas A&M is located is close to Louisiana and is quite Southern culturally. West Virginia was very much part of the South (Virginia) until the Civil War.

Come on Mike..... Don't be so flat-earth about all of this. This nonsense is coming. Absolutely nothing will stop it. I think the fans in the SEC will LOVE the Aggies. The trip to Kyle Field will be something they talk about for years.

I love the Aggies. And I'm so pissed at them right now. They are the first of a ton of dominoes that are going to disrupt our worlds. I want to wish them failure, but I can't. They will have a measure of success in the new league, but I don't see them becoming a power in the league for a while.

I'm highly amused by this. As a graduate of Washington State, I know that we and Oregon State are at the low end of the PAC-12 food chain. But since we're in the conference and others are not, we can sit there and go NEENER NEENER NEENER. We'd never get in if we weren't already there, but that's only good news for us.

I got my PhD at A&M, and I'm pleased to see them tell the teasips to take their TV network and stuff it. Texas has pretty much ruined the Big 12 single-handedly with their arrogance. If t.u. hadn't insisted in running the conference for their own benefit, A&M never would have split - they're too tied to Texas by tradition and rivalry. But now they've had enough. Clearly, A&M will be in the SEC soon, with Baylor the only thing holding them up.

I sympathize with Baylor, Kansas and Kansas State, as they're doomed to come out on the short end of the stick when this settles out. My bet is that the Big 12 will be history before the end of the 2011-12 school year...unless they can reload with more schools after four of their key members leave. If I were Baylor or either of the Kansas schools, I'd be working on that plan right now.

Oklahoma has made it very clear they're headed to the PAC-XX as soon as they can get there. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are smart enough to jump ship with lightning speed. Texas will make their own choice, but staying in the Big 12 isn't going to be a good option. I could do without them in a PAC-16, but they'll have good competition there.

Know who's miffed? Colorado. They were smart enough to move early, but news articles make it very clear that they want to be in a PAC-XX and play as many games as possible in California and Washington, because tons of their alumni are along the west coast. They have comparatively few alumni in the midwest. Their concern is that a PAC-16 division alignment could change from North/South divisions (which the Buffs like) to East/West, which would group them with the Oklahoma and Texas schools, away from their alumni - it would be no better than the Big 12 setup, although the TV deal would clearly pay much better.

The good news for me is that my beloved WSU is already in the PAC-12, even though we wouldn't have a chance of getting into that conference if we weren't already there. I'm comforted by the fact that we're gonna see huge increase in athletic budget from the TV contract, and we'll be able to watch the fun as everybody else plays musical chairs.

Oh, and BTW - the last time WSU played Texas, we beat them in the Holiday Bowl!
