The Most "Beat the Dead Horse" Discussion on Talkbass

Sign in to disble this ad
Yes some days we have too much time on our hands. I see the same discussion threads repeated over and over and over. What subject(s) do you feel are discussed too much. Personally I find it kind of funny/ridiculous with all the Fender bashing. What's yours?

EDIT Just thought this would be fun...it's always great to have a good laugh.

As much as I enjoy them; the "show your P-Bass" threads. Or the Guitar Center rant threads.

Boutiques will never sound as good in the mix as Fenders (even though Fender tone can vary and some boutiques sound like Fender)?

My vote goes for The Most "Beat the Dead Horse" Discussion of Talkbass.

This isn't really necessary.

Over in the effects forum:

How do I sound like Timmy C? (Covered in about 1,000,000 threads)
How do I sound like Justin Chancellor? (Covered in about 1,000,001 threads)
How do I sound like Chris Wolstenholme? (Covered in about 1,000,002 threads)
What pedal should I buy? (This is one of the most open-ended questions ever. What's the point?!)
How do I sound like a synth? (Simple answer? You can't. Covered in 1,000,003 threads)
What is the best distortion pedal? (Completely opinion based)

EDIT: Forgot the classic 'Do you use effects?' threads. In the 'Effects' sub-forum? No one uses effects round here...

What's The All Time Dumbest TB Debate??

Looks like blatant racism wins by a narrow margin. The poll is still open if you care to vote.

"My SX *smokes* every Fender, Musicman, G&L, Lakland, Sadowsky, and Lull that I've ever played. And I get that kind of sound and playability from a bass that only cost me $109! And it's totally stock, too! Well, except for the strings, cause you always have to put on fresh strings. And while I was doing that I figured I may as well replace the tuners to help lighten it up a little. Oh, and the bridge, the Badass REALLY made a huge difference. So for the cost of the bridge I got a bass that's ... and the pickups too, I forgot about them. I put in new Basslines and all it took was replacing the original pup's to TOTALLY transform it! Then I figured if I'm replacing the pickups I may as well put in a preamp, too, to get some added versatility, so I also routed a battery cavity in the back to make life easier. Then once I replaced the neck I figured all it needs is a new pickguard to add some spice. But think about it, for only $109 I've got a bass guitar that blows away every mass produced bass and most boutiques costing boatloads more - and it's practically STOCK!!!!!"

OK, OK, maybe I'm exaggerating the typical SX dead-horse-beating discussions just a little bit.
