Well, Mr Verlander wins MVP and the Cy Young in the same year. He's the first pitcher to win the MVP since Roger Clemens in 92. Ironically the last three Tiger MVP's have been pitchers (Willie Hernandez in 84 and Denny McClain in 68). I do think this much, there is no player more Valuable (if he was a free agent) in the American League and perhaps in Baseball. He is still a young player just entering his prime, he was rookie of the year in 06. I suspect he's on the short track to the HOF. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/22/sp...ince-1992.html Quote:
Verlander, who won the A.L. Cy Young Award unanimously last week, led the league in victories, earned run average and strikeouts. He is the only A.L. pitcher to reach 24 wins and 250 strikeouts, with an E.R.A. of 2.40 or lower, since the advent of the designated hitter in 1973. |
