Motion sensor Mac App to record video?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering if there was an application that would act as a motion activated video recorder with my built in camera on my mac computer.

Example. Someone walks in front of my computer...the computer begins recording without changing the screen, after 5 min seconds of no motion it stops recording. Seems simple enough.

Thanks,
Jonathan

i've always wanted an app like this as well.
but i don't think it's possible (right now anyway)
there's no motion sensor in any of the computers.

It's definitely possible, I used to have a webcam that had a program like that included.

In the PC world, it wouldn't be hard to do by connecting a motion sensor that provided a USB output or some other signal the computer could sense as a toggle. The setup would probably be easy. Not sure how to talk to Macs, but some online searching might yield a sensor that would work.

I found a PC-based tutorial on how to do it - there ought to be a Mac version online somewhere...

Must be fairly simply on both platforms (mac or pc), but I would think that the camera would have to have a motion sensor in it. I'm not sure if it can be controlled by software alone. If I'm reading you're inquiry correctly, that is.

I'm no programmer, but I think you're right.

Basically, you would need a software that takes the cam's input, checks every few keyframes for a certain level of difference from the previous one, and starts recording if the threshold is attained.

I'm sure there's some open source project somewhere.

EDIT: Look up EvoCam.
