Movie remakes

Sign in to disble this ad
So obviously I am late here on the draw, but I just read that they re-made "Arthur", which originally starred Dudley Moore. Have we absolutely sank to this pathetic level in filmography, where ARTHUR is being re-made? ARTHUR????!!!

What are they going to remake next, Weekend at Bernies?

How many reboots of batman, spiderman, and superman?
They are rebooting classic cartoon like voltron and thundercats.
back to the future, planet of the apes all sorts of scifi is getting remade.

Not to mention just about every horror film released in the past 15 years had been a remake.

There is no creativity left only half assed 3d versions starring our favorite overrated overpayed hollywood douche bags.

Oh yes, the horror remakes have been total trash... Rob Zombie's Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St., Fri. 13th.... all garbage.

One issue I have with all of these new horror films/remakes is the poor lighting. I know this is done for effect, but I feel like every new horror film or remakes is almost shot in pitch black lighting, where you can't tell what's going on.

Every Saturday Night Live skit: Night at The Roxbury, Superstar, Wayne's World ...
Every old TV show: Dragnet, Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Mission Impossible, ...

The movie industry is long on money and short on ideas.

The one movie I am really hoping they do not remake....The Thing. Which is, of course, ironic...since I'm talking about the John Carpenter version starring Kurt Russell; which was a remake to begin with.

+1 on the re-makes being crude. What I also dislike is sticking a great song into a movie just to hook you into going or buying the movie. I bought and watched the "Hangover". I give it a 7.5. I havn't seen Hangover II yet but it seems like Hollywood is into the lowest form of entertainment this summer. Re-makes cost less and the audience will give it a try fast than a new original movie.

Super 8 was pretty good. It pulled from classic SciFi movies but it was original.

What about the PSYCHO remake with Vince Vaughan and Anne Heche? Good God, talk about trashing a classic!!

And of course, already mentioned, Planet of the Apes. No CGI wizardry can eliminate the wonderful kitsch element, makeup/costumes, and surprise of the original.

I have to pull this one out and disagree. I saw Zombie's films as more of a re-imagining than a re-make. Truthfully, I really enjoyed them. I like all his movies to be honest.

Zombie's movies didnt follow the original plots exactly, but they were pretty true to the story. Biggest difference IMO, re: the 1st Halloween remake was that Zombie focused on Michael Myers as a kid, which the original did not at all. Zombie actually told a backstory. That said, I still didn't like the movie at all. I did like the fact they used God of Thunder by KISS in the movie when Myers was about to whack those kids with a tree branch.

Yeah, the funniest thing to me are the remakes of movies or TV shows that weren't good to begin with (part of a larger romanticizing of the '80s in particular). And now they're generally making them worse.

Ha! I'll translate my attempt at subtlety. Hollywood has been rehashing the same old stuff for quite some time. Very similar to musicians.

It's hard to tell online if one is being subtle, or one is just ignorant. I figured you might have been being sublte...

Hollywood has been rehashing for a long time, correct.

Almost every decade's tv shows have been remade...

50s-
Dennis the Menace- movie

60s-
Hawai 5.0- tv show

70s-
Bad News Bears
The Brady Bunch

80-
Dallas- being re-booted for TNT this Fall

I kinda wanna see a remake of Donna Reed set in modern times.
