Moving to Austin!

Sign in to disble this ad
So the wife and I are taking the plunge and have decided to move from Arizona to Austin! As one might expect I can't wait to get out there and become part of that huge music scene. I am a bassist with over 10 years experience and a drummer with around 15 years of experience. Once settled, I'd like to join a band as soon as I can.
So for any TBassers that live in the area. What tips or advice can you give the new guy in town? What are cool hang outs? Bars, restaurants, etc?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Specifically, we will be moving to Cedar Park, just north of Austin.

Austin!!

There are so many cool things to do here, that it's hard to list them all! Obviously, there are tons of musicians here, so finding a band probably won't be that difficult. It just depends on what style of music you want to play. In terms of gigs, if you want to make some money, stay away from 6th St. There are plenty other clubs around that don't mind actually paying for your services. Feel free to contact me when you get to town.

look up my old guitarist. He moved to Austin after he got hitched last Sept. and is performing under the name Billy Barrett.

I just said look him up. Most likely you'll want to be able to identify him so you can keep your distance! lol

He's a good guitarist, decent songwriter, but he has an attitude (and appearance) of a troll.
