Where do you guys get your music from. Do you purchase all of your music or download it?
For me: I download it and if I like the band I go out and purchase an album just to show support.
what about you guys?

I used to do download more stuff to see if it was good and then purchase, but with the availability of easy access to streaming versions it's easier to just look bands up on myspace, youtube, or itunes without violating copyright laws.

1) Downloading copyrighted music without paying for it is illegal.
2) Bands get screwed out of money that is rightfully theirs when music is illegally downloaded
3) Screwing over The Big Music Industry is not a legitimate excuse to screw over the band that created and performed the music
4) Too poor to afford paying for it is also no excuse
5) Neither is "everybody else is doing it"
6) Ditto to the excuse "I only wanted one song on the album"
7) Posting on TalkBass about doing or advocating an illegal activity is against the forum rules

Dream theater -Black cloud and silver linings
Scale the summit -monument
Scale the summit - carving desert canyons
Rush-Chronicles (i realized i had no rush cd's..i fail)
But to be honest I download a lot , but if i liked the band, aka. will put it on my ipod, I usually buy their cd. And I tend to go see the shows of the bands i like.
Every time i do a trip to basically any destination i buy a cd or two for the road.
But yeah, shame on me, i thief music :/ |

| | | | well be it illegal and wrong, bands dont really get a lot of money from record sales, most of the cash comes from live shows

It's Illegal by a nose, It's Illegal! It's Illegal has the lead!
But, But, But has just joined the race and is catching up.
Common Sense is in there somewhere, but grouped in the pack! It may do well, but it could go anyway at this point.
Oh, oh, looks like But But But is gaining momentum. Will it Be It's Illegal or But But But!
Really hard to tell at this stage of the race, but usually when these two contenders go head to head "Lock this Thread" comes out of nowhere for the win!

A buddy of mine sent a link to one of those sites a while ago. I checked into it and the copyright laws don't apply out there so the artist don't see any of that money. There's no jurisdiction to change what they're doing, but I'm pretty sure you could still get in trouble. I really don't know.
The worst thing I found out was the high percentage of credit card fraud with using .ru compieies such as them. Everything from so called accounting mistakes to straight out stolen credit card numbers. |

Lock up the Wolves-Dio
To the Nameless Dead-Primordial
Dehumanizer-Black Sabbath
Double Nickels on the Dime-Minutemen(I can't stand this album)
Last Supper-Grave Digger
And a compilation album that contained 4 of a Kind and Thrash Zone from D.R.I.

Other than that, I buy used CD's mostly. I don't like anything new, so used is my best option. I lost touch with the new music scene about eight years ago. We have a 20 year old son in the house, but he listens to the same music I do.

Plus, I listen to:
1) my current cd collection
2) vinyl records
3) cassettes
My "music media format" is a mix of new school, and old-school.

I do it for the simple reason of it saves money when I'm looking for new music. Once I find the people I like, buy albums go to show buy merch.. so on. NOT to make up for the download, but because I like so I support it.
