Music/Bass Related Essay Suggestions

Hey everyone,

Next year I'll be a senior in the International Baccalaureate program, and one of the requirements to complete the program is what is called an extended essay, which is a research paper of up to 4,000 words. The topics were due last month, but I've been slacking and haven't really done anything yet, including choosing a topic.

The extended essay must be in one of the subject areas covered by the IB program, and music is one of those. I would like to do my essay on a music-related topic, and it would be great if you guys help me with some ideas. The guidelines for the topic are fairly strict; they are available here (scroll down to the music section).

Here is an excerpt from the guidelines:

Real music should be at the heart of an extended essay in music. This means particular pieces of music, experienced via recordings, live performances or concerts, should be chosen as the core focus of the extended essay. Students should strive for a coherent verbal analysis and interpretation of one or more pieces of music in relation to the chosen research question.

And an example topic: "What is the influence of Edgard Varese on the musical output of Frank Zappa?"

Any ideas would be appreciated, and being related to bass is a bonus.

I'm gonna be going into the IB program in 2 years and since we need to do the extended essay i was going to do it on music... but i can't think of anything really...

A lot of people say that IB is so much work, but once you're in it, you'll realize that it really isn't that hard, and you'll get a lot out of it, especially college acceptances. Are you in pre-IB now?


Also, I'm still looking for ideas if anyone has any . No one has any interesting ideas relating to music?
