Music business/Industry courses

Hey all,
Im considering doing a music business/industry related course, a shorter course, only 1-2 years preferable.
Im australian, but want to do the course in the U.S., i feel you have more over there and more record labels - bigger industry, plus showcases like sxsw and cmj.
I can't afford a 'proper university' like NYU or UTexas or anything.
So what I have come up with is about 3 choices -
M.I. (Musicians Institute) in LA.-Music business certificate and includes an internship.

McNally-Smith -Associate or diploma of music business -Minneapolis.

S.F. State University -Music/recording industry certificate.

Has anyone done any of these courses or can give me feedback, or suggestions on other schools. Any help would be much appreciated,

with respect....what are you hoping to bring to the industry? Are you happy with the state of the industry? Do you view it as one in turmoil and devoid of talent, or one that is worth saving?

Personally, I view the industry as limping along on lame rosters of obvious, shoehorned into their convenient genre "artists" and producers being the new rock stars....and would rather dig for the good stuff that be force fed. I enjoy that artists are taking things into their own hands and doing it themselves, and giving themselves the chance to grow and profit from it...

I hope if you are truly looking to diving into the industry it's because you'll be doing so with the mission of promoting change in direction, nurturing and supporting real artists and not just to cash in, rub shoulders and sip crystal.

All that soap boxing aside, I know so many people in my area that hold degrees in music / media production, etc...that take jobs way left of "the biz".... dunno if a degree from any of the mentioned schools will get your foot anywhere close to in the door. I would not recommend MI. All I'm gonna say. I've heard so many things.

One university I can recommend for that type of thing is University of Montana. It'll be cold in the winter (SO cold ) but they've got a competitive business program, very active in entertainment business, and they give out scholarships like the money's going to rot. In my (freshman level) entertainment business class, they brought in Pearl Jam to talk to us. And that sort of thing happened every week or every other week. Dudes had connections.

Well, Im obviously not doing it for cash, if I wanted cash I'd be an accountant and get 60k a year, or open up a hot dog stand or sandwich shop. The dream would be to a&r for an indie label, and to hopefully brings bands, who have some much talent and would otherwise go unheard to a bigger audience, and with indie labels, hopefully an audience that can really appreciate them. Selling out for cash isn't in my values/personality. I already have a bachelor and post-grad degree in psychology, but music is my passion, so I want to follow that and see where I end up. I can always come back to psych.
