my birthday/bowling thread.

So I'm approaching dudeness almost every day, as my 24th b-day came and passed this past sunday, and I got a ball and shoes for myself (finally) as I'm learning how to bowl. But moreover, I think I want to start attempting to put together a business plan for opening up or buying a bowling center....Ran it by my parents...needless to say they were a little surprized, but understood my motives, as I want a mellow future, plus if I ever tire of music forever, I'm not left out on the streets. Only problem is.......I really have no idea where to begin other than with the concept that I know how to bust my hump.
Anyone have a clue where a good place to start is?

I always end up spending the night in jail when I go bowling...I guess I should modify my technique...I bowl overhand, mostly, occasionally I'll throw sidearm. For some reason, the bowling alley people don't like it.

Start with the business plan, and get in good networking-wise with the other bowling centers in your area. Drop your name in the hat. Express your interest. See where their business lack, and exploit those in your ventures. If there are no real "bowling pro shops" in your area that do the specialty work (fitting work for new balls, accessories) get into that. learn learn and more learnin. Start contacting suppliers and manufacturers for brochures. Hang at the alleys and ask the players what THEY want.
Accumulate data. Expand on that data.

It's a passtime that rarely has its lulls. Best of luck. And happy belated birthday.

I guess you would need to scout out locations - work out where would be a good place for a bowling alley (ie find somewhere that doesn't have any alley's nearby so you have a good customer draw). You can't run a successful business unless you have customers.

You would also need to work out costs (if you are buying, how much it will cost, plus any refits. If you are building/moving into an existing building, how much everything will cost to install - lanes, pin setting systems, ball collection, balls, counters, lockers, toilets etc.). You would need a loan, so start looking into those.

You would need to hire staff as well, and look at deals with companies like Coca Cola/Pepsi for drinks etc.

I don't know anything about running a business, so maybe you would have to start somewhere else, but those seem to be the practical things to me.

EDIT: When you say 'bowling centre' do you mean a shop? Because if you do, then everything I just said is rubbish.

How many bounces? How many pins were usable after that? My record is three bounces, and two pins unshattered.

And by overhand, I mean like in baseball...
