My car was just vandalized :(

Sign in to disble this ad
Just sitting here at home reading TB and somebody ripped the mirror off the passenger side of my car. I park it out behind my house. Guy was hiding behind my car when I let my dog out or I would have never have seen him. He was dressed in dark clothes and I didn't get a good look at him. Called the police and made a report, but man, this kind of thing pisses me off. Do people not have any respect for others property anymore?

That kind of stuff makes me not so sad when when I hear stories of peoples dogs or older folks taking ball bats and tearing into the people. One of the things I have no pity for is vandalism, the second is thievery.

That sucks, dude. Things like that are a real PITA. I hope you get it fixed cheaply, although it should never have happened. I have no idea why a person would harm another person's property.

Most people don't give a damn for other's property or possesions. Why?

IMO, nobody ever taught them anything about respect.

Oh thanks, like I'm not scared enough. I'm a single woman living alone. That kind of thing is why I have a big dog, though she'd probably never hurt anyone, she's got a big bark. I hope you're wrong!

I'm not trying to scare you just bring some awareness to your situation.

Maybe it's a fellow tber who now knows that your dog wouldn't hurt any one.

And I very much hope that I'm wrong.

Check for any registered sex offenders who may live in your neighborhood.

I hear you. I do know of one sex offender that lives a couple of miles away. They do let everyone know in surrounding neighborhoods.

I live next to a bar, so I'm used to some noise and lots of people coming and going. But this is the first time since I've lived here (20 years) that I've had someone vandalize my car. The guy was carrying something that looked like a long stick with a metal piece on the end, so he was probably looking for cars to break into. But why someone would just break a side mirror is bizarre. He popped the glass right off of the plastic.

Get a BIG gun you're allowed to own em out there w/o to much red tape aren't you? Get a shotty so that it's just a point and click type of device intended to hit the entire person not just shoot em in the leg or some crap terminate his ass. That is only if he comes in your home and intends bodily harm shoot to kill after all his intentions when he is in your house are probably that of extreme harm to persons and property.

OP, how about getting some of those motion sensor-activated outdoor lights?
http://www.elights.com/floodsen.html

There's also Internet-accessible, wireless security cameras:
http://www.video-surveillance-guide....r-internet.htm

I'm thinking that having one or more of these covering the approaches to your home would allow you to detect and monitor suspicious activity without going outside and potentially exposing yourself to possibly being assaulted. They would also allow you to keep an eye on things before you arrive home to avoid being ambushed by someone who has already broken into your home.

Does anyone one here have experience with these?

Not sure about the gun. I've thought about it several times, but always keep hearing how more people get hurt by their own guns than being helpful. Trust me, if someone came in my house I wouldn't have a bit of trouble shooting to kill. Maybe not politically correct but if your life can be on the line, better them than you.

I've got a big floodlight on the back of my house that shines on the front of my car, but apparently that's not enough since I didn't see him. Makes me want to move to the country or something. The security camera is a good idea but I wonder how expensive those are.

The only way u can hurt yourself is if you do not educate yourself about guns which is what you should do. They have lock and safety locks so when the weapon is not in use it is not ready to fire either unless u unlock it and its safety features.

Is there a store in your area which specializes in home security?

There might be, I'm not sure. What should I be looking for?

Just Google (<the name of your city>, home security) to find out if there's any stores about which deal in such matters.

Then check out some of the Guide to home security Google links I posted earlier to find out which options are available at different price ranges.

I can find places that install full home security systems, but I don't think that's what I'm looking for.

And thanks for the links. I'll check them out.

Buy a firearm, and get training how to use it properly.

When seconds count.... police are minutes away.
