My cleaning lady is going to be an American!

This is one of the happiest days of my life.

My cleaning lady, from Brazil, just passed the "test" and her swearing in is in a couple months.

I wasn't her sponsor to come here, but shortly after we met I started talking to her about becoming a US citizen.

Every time she came over she would ask me to tell her about America and teach her what I knew.

Finally, a couple months ago, she told me she was ready but she couldn't afford the application fee.

I paid it for her. (and found it sad to wonder how many can't complete the path because they don't have the extra cash on hand.)

I am So Proud of Her!

Congratulations Samy!

[I don't expect any responses to this - just so pumped up I wanted to share!]

:hyper:

:bassist:

:D

Will she be content staying a cleaning lady?

She will have to change her title to Super American Cleaning Lady.

Not to pick nits or anything but if she's from Brazil she already is an American.

But congratulations to her and well done to you as well. It is something to be excited about. I've had a couple of people that have worked for me over the years and assisting them in getting their citizenship was satisfying to say the least.

Very cool! You did a good thing, kudos.:)

That's very nice.

Before I married and had kids I was thinking about going United-Statian too. :D

I lived about an year in the Philadelphia area back in 2003 and I fell in love with US, but after I came back and got my kids going back for good isn't an option anymore.

Maybe this year or the next I'll take the family on vacation up there...

Isso significa que Sam o açougueiro vai tentar escapar-me a sua carne pela porta de trás um par de vezes por semana?

If you translate that back to English with the Google translator, it's creepier than what I originally intended!

sneha1965 03-13-2013 11:55 AM

escape me your flesh? Lost in translation...

Congrats to your cleaning lady. We are a nation of immigrants and the children of immigrants. Wll all the cultures one day meld into one. Would we be Italians then? :D We could do worse. No offense to our Italian brothers and sisters, I love your culture.

On a related note, here's what happens when you translate the lyrics to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme to another language then translate it back to English.

That guy had to show up ... OK, but go anywhere in the world and say you're an American and they're going to think you're from the United States of America - not South America, Central America, Canada, Mexico or anywhere else.

Anyway, the news is fantastic! Immigration as it's meant to be.
