i spent almost all my time on my computer and very little time practicing these days. earlier i used to practice a little more but meh the computer still took away all the time. but all the great musicians i know spent all their time practicing of playing music!
however i cannot deny that i have learnt almost everything from the internet and some of it has been of incredible value to me! i think i get all my occasional gigs for i know the practical stuff from reading about everything music related than by actually practicing
anyway now i cant figure out how can i get myself to practice to more!? any ideas?

| | | | Find some people to jam with and try to jam with them on a regular basis. I've found that helps a lot in terms of gaining motivation to practice and just play in general. Also, set goals. Find a technique you want to master, a song you want to learn, or whatever else, and learn it. That helps a lot too. Finally, if you keep finding yourself on the internet, practice while you're surfing the web!

ah, there's the rub eh ?
it's a matter of priorities....it seems we always have enough time and/or money for the things we truly desire...

If you simply want to learn music and want to play better get yourself an instructor. Nothing like a weekly (or every two weeks) lesson to keep you on schedule.
If you want to play out (gig) find like minded musicians and form a band. Set a date to learn enough material and eventually play out.
Setting a goal with other people involved provides motivation. If you can't live up to that you should probably sell your gear and buy more ram, or get a faster internet connection. |

That said, even just playing along to records and learning new songs in general is worthwhile. Stop focusing on the "scholarly" side of it, and get back into the fun side of it, and challenge your ear for a while. If that doesn't work....
