My cousin died today....I'm sad

Sign in to disble this ad
So my pop calls me on my way home from work and tells me to stop by his house before I go home. When I get there, he tells me my 24 year old cousin died today. I cried, then I cried a little more, then I started getting mad at everything. Right now, I am shocked. I think maybe this is a dream perhaps? I'll wake up tomorrow and see if it is true.

She was 24 years old. Married with a four year old and two year old daughters. Yep, she's gone now. Her husband Mike is left to raise the kids. I don't know Mike all that well, but he seems like an alright dude. I was really close to my cousin even though we lived on opposite sides of the USA.

OK, so you want to know how she died dontcha? Sure, it's normal to want to know. My cousin, her name is Crystal, had been suffering from terrible migraine headaches for a few years now. Today she was having a really, really bad one so she went to her doctor. He gave her a patch to help mitigate the pain, and she went home. Someone came home, not sure who since I couldn't bring myself to ask, and found her dead on the couch. She does not use any kind of drugs or alcohol, so don't even go there. We'll find out probably this week the exact cause of death.

So life pretty much sucks BIG time for me right now. It had been going good. I bought a Mini Q-Tron from cheezewhiz earlier today, and I was totally stoked about getting it. Now I don't even want it. I don't even want my bass gear. I don't want my golf clubs. I dont want anything right now.

I'm flying home to Pittsburgh in the morning with my mom, my dad, my sister, her two kids, and my wife. The last time I went back home, it was for a crappy reason too.

Hey Ray......I'll be calling you this week. Make some time for me, please.

-Mike

I totally feel you, bro.

My cousin Danny ended his life almost a year ago...

Hang in there.

It is a different feeling than a grandparent or someone older dying, because some part of you always expected them to be gone soon anyways.

With cousins and other family more your age, you think it will be harder... But things will normalize in a week or two, and you will not think about it as much.

Need to chat, hit me up on AIM.

That's a real tragedy, Mike - someone as young as that, with a young family, dying so suddenly and unexpectedly.

My condolences to you and your family.

Mike,
I've never been in a similar situation, so I'd be lying if I said "I know what you're going through". I can, however, give you my complete and sincere condolences. Like others said, hang in there. It seems like the world now, but everything gets better with time.

It's horrible, my deepest condolences, it just isnt right to loose someone that young (i've lost 3 friends who were 21 or under in the last two years, accident, bodged heart op and brain tumour).

It just isnt right

Sorry to hear that man. Lost my cousin the week before Thanksgiving '06. He was on life support for a month but the Dr. said his brain damage was too much so they pulled the plug.

It's bad enough she died at 24 but to leave behind 2 young children and husband just compounds it. Again, sorry.

Deepest and sincere condolences, Mike. That indeed sucks and anyone would feel lost facing such a tragedy. Go on, man, cry as much and as long as you can, that's the only way to feel better a bit later. But please do nothing crazy, and don't give up what you enjoy the most in life.

Subscribed, as my mother has severe migraines often and has never found a good treatment, maybe this is one she should stay away from. Sorry for your loss and hope the kids are doing okay.
