My drummer started dealing drugs. What the F!

Sign in to disble this ad
I found this out on Sunday and I think it might just be the icing on the cake for me. I've been thinking of quitting the band I'm in because the lack of professionalism is ridiculous but now that this has come up I'm more serious about leaving. A drug dealer is the last thing I want to be associated with. He's a good drummer but never brings sticks to shows or practice. He isn't very reliable ether.

So with that said does anyone have advice or experience in a situation like this?

Just quit if you're not into it.

I'd quit a band if the drummer didn't have his own sticks. YMMV.

Can you just kick out the drummer, or is the guitarist(s) a problem as well?

My roomates have a band and one of them is the same way. Well.. not a dealer, but a user. He has 3 or 4 guitars and NONE of them have all 6 strings on them... yet he always has pot. His bandmates (including my other roomate) are fine with it though as long as he shares with them.

So i guess it's not necessisarily a 'bad' thing, you just have to decide if it's bad for you, personally. If it is, leave. If everyone has a problem with him, HE needs to leave.

I'm the only one that seams to care and I can't understand why. None of the other guys smoke pot or do any other kind of drug. Also, we have two shows coming up, should I play those shows and then leave or should I do it A.S.A.P.?

Just don't ride to and from the gigs with him. If he's holding, you could end up sharing a cell.

Maybe they just don't tell you that they smoke pot and do drugs.

I'm just sayin'

Anyway, if it bothers you then you need to do what is right for you.

BTW, how does he play if he forgets his sticks?

My drummer as well is doing a lot of, well, let's just say, strictly illegal substances. I guess this as common for them?

I, for one, realized this Saturday that I play the drums way better while intoxicated.

It also makes you forget the pain of being a drummer.

It doesn't really matter why it doesn't bother the others, does it? It seems to me if you're the only one concerned you're not on the same page as them. That might help seal the deal for you.

As for playing the last 2 shows, what are the pros and cons of those shows? If you play at them and are not totally into them, it'll come across and may backfire.

Sounds like drugs or no drugs, you're no longer happy in this band. Quit while you're ahead. (if it were me, and with my luck, the drummer would get busted by cops while the band was playing at a venue, and I'd be smeared with same bad rep as he's going to get...heh.) Find another group - or start a new band - with bandmates who have the same aims you do - in other words, their goals are to improve their own playing and become more professional.

Are you sure he's actually dealing drugs? Drummers often act like idiots. It's not necessarily the drugs.

my entire band is on pot loads, except for te drummer tbh.

pretty good trhing actually. with him setting the rhythm and all..all our music would be even slower if we were ALL on pot, lmao.

tbf, our music is midtempo at the most already.

anyway, if it just doesn't float your boat, but it doesn't harm or affect you, just tell him you don't like to see him actually doing it, or don't want to hear stories about it. if you are annoyed by him being high while gigging or practising, just tell him. if you guys can't work it out, it's gonna be a lose-lose situation.
