It has outlasted 2 girlfriends, an evil relationship, and numerous usurpation and assassination attempts. It dropped on a treadmill and flung against a wall, receiving it's first scuffs. It's been dropped numerous times and lived, but my iPod is now, after 4 years of hard life, slowly dying.
It had to go into surgery for the second time today. So far, everything seems to be working, but I know it's a matter of time. The freezes, the delay when starting a song (normal for hard drive iPods, but growing longer now) all are death knells for this venerable device. 4 years!! That's outlasted all of my cell phones (except the current one), it's successor iPod (a black 80 gig iPod Video that got stolen), and even one that posed no threat (a black 8 gig 3rd 3rd gen nano, now in possession of my girlfriend).
When It finally goes, I'm not sure what to do. I mean, i'll have a replacement by then, but it wont feel right just tossing it in the landfill...

My heart goes out to you and yours, and I can only pray that the death is painless and the replacement sturdy.
I would recommend a glass case, placed nobly on a pedestal near your musical rig of choice, that its spirit may live on through the melodies produced by you when it can no longer relay unto the world the melodies produced by others. A burial less fitting is heartless.
Good luck, and Godspeed.

My companions (yes I have several) were already well used and neglected when we first met. Most of them needed surgery at the get go, but were grateful for the new opportunity for extended life. None of them have died on me and I'll be damned if I let that happen, barring the total annihilation of course. I think the oldest which is still with me, has been along the ride for 5 years, the newest, 3.
Perhaps a new HDD memory unit for the 'ol gal is in order. You can treat her with a new power storage unit as well. That way You can be together for a loooong time.
Regards

I made my iRiver H320 into a H330, and put a battery with over 2x capacity, and now it runs for about 20 hours instead of 8. It's all good

It's all good | I might attempt a resurrection once I get my new one. the new iTouches wont be more than 32 gigs i'm thinking, so I'll need something larger to hold it all. I might even try for a 60 gig SSD or a 120 HDD or something. My dad's always been interested in doing that, so maybe he'd help foot the bill for a new battery or something...
But it's still going strong after it's latest operation. I'm beginning to think that this thing wont die. Quote:

But If I find a car stereo with an 8-strack player, it's going in my Camry.

You need to upgrade to an El Camino or a Camero before experiencing the awesomeness of an 8 track deck. |

Give it a millenium or two and maybe the technology has advanced enough to revive your friend. |
