ok me and four of my close friends we up at my dads lake house last night til like 1 am til we went back to our hometown when i woke up the next morning at my place i couldnt find my wallet that had a credit card in it then i get a call from my cousin tonight (shes lives there temporarly but wasnt home last night) and shes all pissed off at me because her ipod is missing and she blames my friends. none of my friends are that way, we stole traffic cones before but thats different. the door to the house was unlocked and we were out on the lake for quite awhile before we got back on land. someone walking into the house is unlikely but it is possible i suppose. i cancelled the card tonight and the last charge was from me so thats good but i am getting alot of heat from my family about this and i really dont know what to do or what to think of whats going on....anyone got words of advice for me here

I'm not sure what sort of telepathic answer you're looking for, but that sucks none the less.

Hate to say it, but probably.

Particularly when other people are concerned. I have friends who would never steal from me, but I wouldn't leave them unsupervised in someone elses house.

I suppose somebody could have walked intio your house, and took your wallet. Then they decided to steal an iPod. Maybe they were just lazy thieves, and didn't want to steal anything else. but they knew where the aforementioned items were located, so they just went after those...sounds a lttle hard to believe.

They took items that were easy to steal, and get away with cleanly. They knew were the items were. I hate to say it, but your friends jacked you.

I can't say for sure, but It seems so.

Also, here are a few periods - you might need them: ..................................
capital letters as well - you can cut and paste as needed: YIHJHGHGFGFSDAWQEDGHBJHGJGJ

But anyway, yes, your cool "friends" are douchebags that stole from you and are now probably bragging about it to other cool "friends".
Trust me, I have been there and done that and got burned as well. Trust...but verify. Err something

Maybe, depends. Could have just as easily been someone walking by and noticed all of that stuff on display. That sort of thing happens all the time at school.

You can use effective communication outside of English class too.

60's Bluesman; Don't worry about grammar if you don't care to. Your personal typeset is a reflection of yourself, and if being chill and carefree about your grammatical framework is comfortable to you, and you are still able to communicate effectively, you shouldn't let anyone bully you into changing your ways. Hell; Shakespere spelled boat with an 'h', and he was called a genius.

As for your friends - all evidence is purely circumstantial. And there isn't even that much evidance in the first place. You know your friends better than anyone here - if you think they are innocent - then they are.

Standing up for one's friends is just about the most noble thing a man can do. Your call.

When the self-appointed Grammar Police are on the thread, yes, you are in English class.

Welcome to TalkBass.com!

Be a good sport. What they teach you could come in handy some day.

I'm a retired high school English teacher, and I still get my chops busted here on occasion.

P.S.--About the friends, you should pull the one you trust the most aside and run it by him. Ask him if he knows anything about it.

From my experience, lake houses are pretty secluded. I think that the chances of someone coming into your house and taking two and only two things while not making it obvious at first (if you've ever had your house robbed, you can tell even before you start to tally what's missing- burglars trash the place) are very low, leaving to either you (?!) or, yes, your friends.

Is there any possibility you guys were so wasted that you don't remember where you put your wallet and the iPod? Maybe you took them out, and dropped them and don't remember where they are.

Otherwise, it's likely that it's an inside job.

Talk to your friends one at a time, and see what's up.
See if any of your friends come up with a "new" iPod, or if any of their friends do (they may have sold it).

If you guys are in High School, you may be able to bluff em. Tell your friends one at a time (beginning with the one most likely to squeal), that you found some stuff missing, and that your dad has contacted the police for insurance purposes. Let them know that the police may be contacting them or their parents on the matter, and may be brought in for questioning. Say it matter of factly, without accusation. Act like you're doing them a favor by giving them a heads up. From there, watch their reaction carefully. You may be able to get someone to break and squeal.

You are terrifying and manipulative. Though I agree with your tactic being sound.
