She bitches about what we play and wants only 80s dance tunes. We had a great show tonight and picked up two more gigs and had actual musicians rave over us, then cut me down on the way home. Pissed the ffffffffff offfffff.

My wife wasn't exactly the biggest fan of my last band's musical stylings but she still came to most all our shows and found the good in the things she could relate to. And she could acknowledge that we were (mostly, I think) talented at our respective instruments.
Where's the support? That's what spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends are for, right?

Me and my girl just have such different ideals and I pretty much told her tonight that she should start her own band and play what she likes, till then **** off. Not my finest moment.

Does this mean that we're friends now?!
On a more serious note, I am not Canadian so I don't fall under that friendly Canadian stereotype.

So maybe you are missing her point as well.
2nd, You should play for your audience, whatever you and your band decides that to be.
and just as an after thought, My wife and I do not agree on very many musical things. She doesn't come to see me play - most of the time. She supports me, but doesn't feel obligated to be at every gig. fwiw, YMMV, tax, tag and title not included.

My wife is into patchwork and romance novels, but I can't sew and I read mostly non-fiction nowadays.
Music is my thing, but why should I expect her to come along and sit alone or with a group of band wives / girlfriends she may or may not know or like, getting hit on by drunks who assume a group of solo women are available?
She doesn't see my bands unless she wants to. I don't read her books unless I want to. All is good. |

She wore a t-shirt from a previous show! She has a great time at every show from Alice Cooper to Joe Bonamassa. She loved Cheap Trick! Then she introduces me to Elbow. Amazing girl! (Did I mention she has a PhD, likes to hike, bike, canoe/raft/kayak, cooks soup for me when I am sick, comes to my races, and gets me gift certificates for sports massage for Xmas?)
Isn't that how we make friends, by gloating?
(And she is a hot Asian chic who can fence!)
