Well, the old 4th gen finally gave up the ghost, and my Sansa e260 has a messed up screen. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself now. I hardly ever use the radio in the car, and I hate CD's now. What a bummer.

Why do you hate CD's? Is it the superior sound quality and lack of audible compression artifacts?

I did that and got some good miles out of it. I'm saying the Shuffle is not worth the money for what it is. Not being able to interface with my car stereo, and no screen, there is an old Designer Vision/Coby brand one I have that's 1 gig that has a display and a built in microphone. I'm looking to get a good upper level iPod because I need a larger storage space, and the Touch is basically a portable web machine, which I would love to have (until I can get an iPhone). Of course they are expensive, which is giving me pause, but I already have a dock/stereo thing for the iPod, and my car stereo has a dock connector. Quote:

CD's are too easily damaged, and they take up a lot more room as compared to a big CD jacket. I have a ton of music, and the iPod just makes sense.

These last few days in Korea I've been basically using it as a Touch since I have no service. Many of the apps I cannot use because they are web-based and there seem to be no free wifi hotspots here but I've still carried it with me everywhere. Screen is awesome for movies, there are some incredible apps and games and the interface and touchscreen are amazing.

The hold/headphone jack ribbon cable pins have come unsoldered, and the hard drive died and showed up in the stats with 0 space, 0 used, 0 free. Now it's all sad iPod icon only. I've done plenty of iPod repairs, and it is dead, and probably not worth sinking parts into.

Maybe that's the same with the iPod touch <?>. It seems to be different with the iPhone 3G's... if they get damaged with water it can completely ruin them more easily than with the 1st gen because of the way they're wired. I came across a post about all that on the iPhone forum at forums.macrumors.com

bc | I'm sure a lot of that has to do with how they're built.

| | | | Ill take my cowon D2 over a touch anyday. It doesnt have the web browsing and apps, but it still has a touchscreen, better sound quality, is expandable with up to 32gb sd cards, is completely skinnable, is smaller than the touch, and supports flash applications.
Just something to think about. YMMV. |

Just something to think about. YMMV. | Part of the reason I was checking into the touch was because of the browsing capabilities. I'll definitely take a look, though.
