My new digital camera

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody.

As I said in this thread, I decided to buy a new digital camera looking for some improvement but keeping a sort-of modest profile since I'm not an avid photographer. After reading lots of reviews, I settled on this one, which arrived home a couple hours ago:

Still have lots of things to learn about it, but I feel very enthusiastic. Basically, this one seems to be the perfect "middle point" between a point-shoot and a SLR camera, so that was the basis for my decision. Still very compact! Plus, it accepts both lithium-ion and AAA batteries (the ONLY camera with that convenience as far as I could find). I'll give more educated opinions as I get to know it better. In the meantime, you can read a review here. BTW, mine is the model with the removable LCD viewfinder. I think it's a very nice addition.

He, he... with my old camera, of course. Still thinking what I'm going to do with it. Nobody seems interested in buying it.

Donate to an orphanage, school or other place that would be happy to have it.

Hey Mike and friends! Haven't had time to take pictures outside, but I've just recorded and uploaded my first video with the Ricoh GX200. I think you'll notice the difference with the previous ones. Hope you enjoy it.

Nice. If you intend to have one camera that is good for all occasions, that one is probably an excellent choice. It's small enough to take with you on various occasions, but have enough features, I suppose, for also slightly higher-level photography. It looks pretty rugged too.

Not intending to hijack this thread, but I'm in the process of buying a new camera myself, as my pocket camera is rather limited. I wanted a lower-budget system camera and found a nice used set with a Nikon D60, two lenses (18-45mm VR and 70-300mm macro), and some other side equipment. Got it for €450, which is over €150 less than the set costs as new, and a good deal in my eyes. Especially for a beginner. This set was bought new last october, and is said to be in great condition, which I don't doubt. The seller had recently upgraded to a pro set and hence decided to sell this.

I will also post some pics taken with the new camera, but in the meantime, here's one I took a week ago with my pocket camera (Nikon Coolpix S210): http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/k...c/DSCN2057.jpg
I like this photo and that blurring effect, but I hate being able to get it only when photographing small objects like flowers, standing 10cm away from it. That's one of the reasons I want the system camera, but not the only one.

You can read about that "blurring effect" and how to control it here.

Thanks for the link. I tried to find a translation to the swedish word "skärpdjup" before posting but I couldn't find one, hence the funny term. I basically know what it is, the point was that I just can't get a short enough field depth with a small pocket camera like mine. I expect it to work fine with the D60 and the longer lens though.
