Hi everybody.
As I said in this thread, I decided to buy a new digital camera looking for some improvement but keeping a sort-of modest profile since I'm not an avid photographer. After reading lots of reviews, I settled on this one, which arrived home a couple hours ago:
Still have lots of things to learn about it, but I feel very enthusiastic. Basically, this one seems to be the perfect "middle point" between a point-shoot and a SLR camera, so that was the basis for my decision. Still very compact! Plus, it accepts both lithium-ion and AAA batteries (the ONLY camera with that convenience as far as I could find). I'll give more educated opinions as I get to know it better. In the meantime, you can read a review here. BTW, mine is the model with the removable LCD viewfinder. I think it's a very nice addition. |

Haven't had time to take pictures outside, but I've just recorded and uploaded my first video with the Ricoh GX200. I think you'll notice the difference with the previous ones. Hope you enjoy it. |

It's small enough to take with you on various occasions, but have enough features, I suppose, for also slightly higher-level photography. It looks pretty rugged too.
Not intending to hijack this thread, but I'm in the process of buying a new camera myself, as my pocket camera is rather limited. I wanted a lower-budget system camera and found a nice used set with a Nikon D60, two lenses (18-45mm VR and 70-300mm macro), and some other side equipment. Got it for €450, which is over €150 less than the set costs as new, and a good deal in my eyes. Especially for a beginner. This set was bought new last october, and is said to be in great condition, which I don't doubt. The seller had recently upgraded to a pro set and hence decided to sell this.
I will also post some pics taken with the new camera, but in the meantime, here's one I took a week ago with my pocket camera (Nikon Coolpix S210): http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/k...c/DSCN2057.jpg
I like this photo and that blurring effect, but I hate being able to get it only when photographing small objects like flowers, standing 10cm away from it. That's one of the reasons I want the system camera, but not the only one.

I tried to find a translation to the swedish word "skärpdjup" before posting but I couldn't find one, hence the funny term. I basically know what it is, the point was that I just can't get a short enough field depth with a small pocket camera like mine. I expect it to work fine with the D60 and the longer lens though.
