Ugh. So I got pulled over tonight with my girlfriend in the car.

I was going 45 in a 40.

...Am I an official TalkBass badass now?

You got a ticket for doing 5 over? Around here they wont even bother unless you are doing at least 15 over.

They usually allow 5 over in order to accomodate speedometer error. I don't believe it is compulsory...technically, your speedo is supposed to be accurate, and it's your equipment, so you're responsible.

That said, the cop was a penis.

Probably a rookie cop.

I've met a few in my day.

I love how it's a rookie cop or a penis just because Keith got a ticket . Grow up fellas, the man did his job. Keith said he was speeding, if only five miles an hour.

And how do we know it wasn't Keith with the attitude problem that help earn that ticket?

I'll admit I was going 5 over.

...But I don't have an attitude problem. My "Yes sir" and "No sirs" were all there. This was my first run in with the cops after all.

I guess I just wanted to rant.

Does anyone know what a ticket like that costs? I don't see anything on the ticket itself.

Actually, I'm not a cop. I just respect their profession and commitment. More people should, IMO.

Keith, I didn't think you were complaining with your post. You admitted you were speeding. That says alot about you. And the fact that you said sir. I have no idea what it will cost you, but you may be able to keep it off of your record with defensive driving. As an insurance agent, I would suggest you do that if possible

Yep. No points and no insurance issues involved... So I'll take that as my warning...

Other than that... I had a good night.

Five over for your first? Lucky.

I got a ten over in a school zone. Went to court, got zero points on my licence, but had to pay a minimum $200 fine. And court costs. But since colo springs is the second or third worst city for speed traps, I don't feel so bad.

Yes, while it may be ridiculous, you gotta look at it this way. There is no "given" written in for going 5 MPH over. Most cops are pretty lenient, but, 5 over is still technically speeding. Just doing his job.
