yesterday she came in favorin her right front paw. middle of the night shes pantin, droolin and cant get up. so to the emergency clinic we went. some sort of back problem he thinks. today at 7:30am we are at our vet he took x rays. something in her back let loose. he gave her a steriod shot and some muscle relaxers. if she is no better in a weeks time the worst might have to happen. right now she cant even stand up let alone go out to do her business. damn, this sucks. I LOVE MY DOG. get well jackie.

I am very sorry. I hope she gets better. I am a dog (and cat) lover too and I know how much this can weigh on you.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Mike. I also love dogs and after many years, still regret not being able to have one since I'm out most of the day and live alone. I hope your pet gets well soon.

I feel your pain dude. One of my Dachshunds herniated a disc in her back years ago and was paralyzed from mid-back down. It was pretty bad at first (she was initially in a lot of pain), but the pain went away. Her back end pretty much atrophied away, but we did get her an ass-cart (doggy wheelchair), and she acclimated to it really quickly. She used it for about six months or so.

After a summer full of a LOT of swimming (even as half a dog she was a great swimmer), she started getting some control of her tail end back.

It's about five years later, and she walks, runs, etc. She can't do steps. She pees outside, but poops wherever (she doesn't know when she poops).

Overall, I'm thrilled she's okay!

Don't freak out over your dog yet, ya never know what could happen!

It so sucks to see your animals hurting. They never do anything to 'deserve' it, & they look at you w/that 'can't you make me better?' look...
Prayers goin' up.

hey man,
i feel for you. A couple of weeks ago my wifes cat wasn't acting right. So I took her to the emergancy clinic. At first they thought she had renal disease. After a few days of not getting better, we checked her in for overnight care. she was retaining fluid, so they drained the fluid and xrayed her. her stomach was full of cancer wich was causing her organs to fail and we had to put her down. she was only 11 or 12. it was such a hard desicion to make and my wife was heart-broken. She was suffering, so we had to do the right thing. I hope your story has a happier ending. it was hard to do the right thing when we couldof tried to keep her around for our own selfish reasons.
good luck

My dachshund had a bulging disk a few months ago. It was really scary, how hard a time he was having. He couldn't wag his tail, even. But with some narcotics, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory type stuff and bed rest, he made a full recovery. He turns out to be really really good at bed rest.
There's also options like acupuncture and chiropractic (serious, this exists). Surgery can probably be done, although that would be a four figure number of dollars.
And worse comes to worst, I've known lots of happy dogs in wheelchairs. It's not like a horse.

go to an account like Photobucket (it is free) and then upload pictures from your computer. They will give you several HTML codes to copy and paste to various sites. Use the one with the "img" in the brackets---> it will start like this---> paste
that code to your thread and there you go..a picture!

this(which I broke the link to show up instead the picture):

will show as this:
