My stepdad was in a train wreck

Coroner: Children's Train Overturns, Child Killed - Greenville News Story - WYFF Greenville

He was the conductor. It's not in any way his fault, it was just a freak accident. To me, (I wasn't there) it looks like the bridge gave way. He wasn't physically hurt bad, just bumps and bruises, but he feels awful about it.

From what he's told me, he took the train for two test laps, with nobody on it, and had made 7 other trips around before this happened. He was actually going slower than the other times, because the engine was sputtering.

I'm kind of glad that the papers aren't 'blaming-him-without-blaming-him.'

The papers let him off the hook, hopefully the parents of the children involved do too.

There's not really any 'hook,' so to speak. I feel that he's as much a victim here as those kids. To me, it looks like the bridge support collapsed.

Not trying to be rude, I just don't want people to get the wrong impressions.

That's horrible!

From the footage, it looks like there was some railroad ties missing just past the bridge.

I don't know if there were any missing or not. But, I do know that he's lucky not to have been brained by either the ties where the bridge flipped, or the cement brace.
