The following is a rough timeline of how Monday November 19, 2012 went for Natalie Riggs.

12:30am: I kiss Natalie on the forehead as she is wheeled into surgery.

10:10am: The procedure is finished and she is taken the ICU.

12:30pm (roughly): Natalie's sister Anna and I get see her. She is very groggy but was awake enough to squeeze my hand when she hears us.

3:30-4ish: After a nap I go in to visit Nat again. The sedation medication has been backed off and she is communicating best she can by writing letters in the air with her index finger. We are told that she is doing very good...in fact so good, that if she keeps her current pace of improvement she will be off the ventilator tonight.

6:30pm: The Ventilator tubes are removed and Natalie takes her first breaths with new lungs.

Typically a lung transplant patient is on a ventilator for 3-5 days. THAT'S MY GIRL!

Time to rest.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and positive support.

Jb

Man, I just found this thread. CONGRATS TO YOU TWO! You are both blessed to have each other! You and she will be in our prayers this Thanksgiving and if you want, I'll add this to our church prayer list. When it's ok to do so, kiss her cheek for me and tell her my whole family is sending her love from Texas! God bless you both!

I know this seems monstrous, but we have to close this thread. Charity threads aren't allowed at TB, due to some really nasty stuff here a few years ago. Sucks for worthy causes such as this, but it's the only way to keep TB insulated if things go south.

I'm really glad your girl is making a recovery, and wish her the best. I'll leave this thread locked, but undeleted. My best to you both.

Well, Natalie is recovering by leaps and bounds! There is talk of her being discharged this week! Already she is getting around better than she was before the surgery.

This was taken about a week ago:

That's great to hear

My apologies for not having posted so far, but I was following this thread.

Hi everyone, Sorry I'm behind on my duties as dedicated news reporter for Natalie. She is still doing remarkably well. She had to have a couple of chest tubes put in to drain some additional fluid that had accumulated. As of today, the docs said she'll have the tubes in 'til Tuesday, or Wednesday, and then discharge her the following day. But she needs to remain in Pittsburgh for an additional week or so, in case any complications arise. Her and I will be staying at one of the family houses near the hospital. While at the family house she won't have any tubes or equipment to deal with, so she said she would like to go out out and explore Pittsburgh and take some pictures. Also, her birthday is the 16th, so her and I will go out to dinner that night. It has been years since her and I had a proper night out for dinner. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant in the City of Bridges?

PM TBer drummer5359 and clue him in on where you are and what restrictions you'll need to work with. He's local in the Pittsburgh area and has been a really great tour guide for me when I've been in the city. I'll text him that I referred you.

Go to Primanti Brothers for some food, Fort Pitt in downtown for some history lessons, then over to Point State Park for some great photo ops. Frick Park is a cool place too. The Duquesne Incline is fun too, with some really nice photo ops if you hit the weather on a clear day.

Hit up South Side Steaks on Carson for a really good cheesesteak. Carson Street is party central at night if you're into that.

Lidia's (Italian) in the Strip District would be my choice for a nice dinner. Hofbrauhaus is a fun experience too, dining with the full on Bavarian flair. It's a national chain, so it has that feel to it, but Lidia's is part of a chain too. Big Jims In The Run would be a good choice too, but it's not fancy. More of a downhome type restaurant. It's family owned and serves up food you'd make at home.

DeSalla's is the best pizza joint in Pittsburgh. It's on the Southside, up on Warrington on the hill in Allentown.

-Mike
