My wife is having weight loss surgery

Sign in to disble this ad
at 730 am tomorrow morning. We're leaving for the hospital in 6 hours. Any of you guys gone through, or known someone to go through this? She's pretty excited. I'm excited for her, but my wife is having major surgery tomorrow, and my in laws will be there, so I'm sure I'm going to be a nervous wreck. It's obviously life changing. She's battled with weight her whole life, and neither of us are small. I'm actually hoping it will be better for both of us. Since she can't eat fatty or carb heavy foods anymore, I'm sure I will loose some weight too (not like that's a bad thing)

\nervous rant

What surgery? Liposuction? Lap band? Stomach Stapling?

I have a few friends who have had the stomach banding done. All have done well without any complications except when they didn't follow the prescribed diet.

Is your wife having the " lap banding" or is she having an actual gastric bypass?

I'd be nervous too if it was my wife, even tho these procedures are proven to be pretty safe.

I'll be sending out the positive thoughts and vibes.

She's having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Banding can cause problems with scar tissue, and R and Y (gastric bypass) is a little invasive, plus there's the unplugging and re plugging in of the organs. The vertical sleeve removes 85% of your stomach, but doesn't change the entrance or exit. Sort of a best of both worlds.

Just be careful and follow the diet. I know three people who have had the surgery, and all three eventually gained all the weight back, plus more.

she's too damn stubborn to not. Plus we took out a pretty good sized loan to get it done. she knows it's a tool for weight loss, not a magical answer to eat ice cream and pizza and loose weight. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers in advance.

Glad you got the 215 bro, I was gonna PM ya and tell ya I'd pick up and hold the modded Mesa RR one here on the east coast you were looking at til you could afford shipping if you needed.... but I guess that's moot now.

Anyway, keep us posted.

My mother had her stomach shrunk and has a little ring around her guts. She took a little longer than normal to heal cause she's a sickly person, but it did her a world of good. Not as fast acting as Lipo, but over time, it helped her drop about 150 pounds.

I've known 3 people who have had surgery, but I'm not sure exactly which type. The first was a female. I'm not sure how long it was after the surgery, but she knocked on my office door. When I opened it up, I didn't even recognize her until she started talking. She had lost so much weight that she looked like a very young, thin Nancy Reagan. She did tell me that her husband had gained weight since her surgery. When they'd go out to eat, she could only eat a small amount, so he ended up eating the rest of her portions too. So be careful you don't fall into that trap.

The second one was a guy who was nearly 400 pounds. Last time I saw him, he was down to 220. Literally almost half the man he once was!

The third was about 380. I think he now weighs around 260, although he still looks like he has a lot of loose flab. I wasn't real close friends with any of them, so I don't know what kinds of complications, if any, they had.

Best of luck to your wife!

Make sure that she works out while dropping the weight. Preferably some weight lifting. If she doesn`t, she will get a lot of loose flab. If she works out, it should keep her skin taught.

She just started surgery at 8 cst. I'm trying not to kill my inlaws or myself on account of them.

Maybe one of the nurses can hook you up with a Xanax or 2? Hospitals suck man! How long is she going to have to stay?
