Naming Yer Price!

Sign in to disble this ad
If we see something at a GC, or a pawn shop or other music store; new or used, we sometimes make the store an offer of what we would pay for that particular item.

I am lookin at buying a cruisin' bike. New preferably. Some are kinda pricey, and I am looking to see if retail price means retail price.

Would you, or have any of you made an offer below retail to buy at a bike store? What happened as a result?

Thanks for your helpful replies.

MSRP and actual retail price can be extremely close sometimes, but most of the time an MSRP is around 33% more than what you will pay for an item in a store.

American Standard P- MSRP $1800 US http://www.fender.com/products/searc...tno=0190462706

Actual Retail Price- $1200 http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ass?sku=515752

Exactly 33% difference in prices. And yes, I frequently lowball retail stores. You never know who will say yes...

Different stores have different policies.

I recently did some price-shopping on both bikes and kayaks. The two dealers within an hour drive for a particular kayak I wanted stuck to MSRP on the boats, and offered a slight discount on any accessories purchased at the same time. I found the same boat out of state at 25% off. Even with the $150 shipping, it came out FAR less than MSRP.

With the bikes, I found the stores a bit more willing to work with you on the prices. I found bikes I liked anywhere from 0-20% off MSRP. I didn't find any online that ended up being cheaper to ship than to buy in town, as with the kayaks.

The worst they can say is no. I lowball everyone. I even go through the drive through sometimes with less money than the amount. Most of the time they'll give it to me if I'm somewhat close. Once I had a total of like 5 bucks and the order was 8. They gave it to me. I bought a fake xmas tree last season and haggled the crap out of the dude in Home Depot. Wound up paying 30 dollars less than what they were asking for it on sale.
