Is this evidence? I'd like to see the outcome of the review of this discovery...

I'm one who firmly believes in solving problems at home before investing so much time and money to something outside of our atmosphere.

Neat find, though.

hmmm, looks quite promising, though the source seems to have been discredited, at least by one guy. Don't know enough about it yet.

From what I've read, it's a crackpot with a book to sell.

I'll be really surprised if this turns out to have any truth to it.

hmmm....this isn't looking very promising. I want to imagine that if this had more backing to it, the story would be a bit more present in the media. I'm having a hard time finding reports from other news sources.

too bad

The yahoo article links directly to the 1990s freewebs-style "journal" in which it's published. Nobody will be able to tell you more, unless perhaps you click one of the many links to buy 100 dollar books from the author.

Its not as much about getting more info as it is finding legitimacy in a story reported by more than just yahoo. This would be a huge news story if it were more than speculation.

Could be significant, but really, there's kinda got to be life outside Earth. I mean, cmon, we're one tiny planet out of millions in our galaxy out of an infinite number of galaxies in the universe. Seems kinda naive to believe there's nothing out there.

I'm really big on science, extraterrestrial life, etc. etc. but I often think that way too.

sometimes it takes a lofty goal to get people interested in the science that develops the technology that can be used to help on earth. Getting to moon had many benefits, including helping to inspire youth to study science.

i find it hard to ignore the side benefits, like satellites, and, to a lesser extent, tang and that bed from the infomercials.

Completely. I find astronomy to be fascinating. The idea that there may be another Earth-Planet out there somewhere in our galaxy is fascinating, the possibilities are endless.

Before someone quotes me on this, I will say this: I suppose that I should be thankful for the money invested into space exploration, satellite technology and all that jazz. Our society, and in turn the global community (to an extent), would not be any where near as advanced as we are now.

No, it's "kinda naive" to believe anything one way or the other as we simply don't have enough to go on. Life could be widespread all over the universe or limited to just our planet. We simply don't know. (By the way, the number of galaxies in the universe is not infinite.)

As far as the claim that is the subject of the thread, PZ Myers is, as always, rigorously spot on with his analysis.
