| My biggest issue with the study is that African American genes were only compared to Yoruba genes. That may be a result of the Yoruba genome having been studied more than others. I would have liked to seen the genomes of people like the Wolof and Mandingo, Mende, Twi, and a group from Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo included because African Americans have significant numbers of ancestors from all of those groups.
The Yoruba do constitute a significant part of African American ancestry, but from what I know even more African Americans came from what is now Eastern Nigeria, instead the West, which is the home of the Yoruba.
