I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave, especially if he wins another one in a week.

Lane Kiffin--7 & 6

couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

has any team ever fallen so far after being ranked #1 to start the season?

1950 ND and 1961 Ole Miss started out #1 but finished without winning records. I just looked it up.

But they only played 9 regular season games then as opposed to the 12 we see now.

Kiffin losing to a 6-7 G Tech team that got pounded by Middle Tennessee State is just delicious.

Lsu manages to wrap its hands around its own neck again. Les Miles' record is remarkable considering what a horrible clock manager he is.

i mean at times you think he is brilliant...but i don't know.

i think if you wanted to draw up an offensive game plan to lose to clemson, LSU did it...who is the offensive coordinator? whoever it is, you got to lay the blame for this one straight at the feet of Miles.

Miles is successful because of his personality i think, which mostly makes up for his shortcomings as a technical coach.

I didn't realise LSU lost. Last I heard it was at the two minute mark and they were still throwing the ball instead of running out the clock on the ground. I just assumed they could hold out to the end but apparently not. Miles has always been an enigma to me. He's widely known as a players' coach and his guys play HARD for him. I like that he takes a gamble sometimes and puts on his team to make it happen but the man needs an intervention on clock management. Sometimes I think he just loses track of things during the game and sometimes I think he just gets too clever when a standard approach will do the job.

Most of the time, his inexplicable game management works out due to something crazy happening. Wasn't the case last night.

As a Gator fan, I admit I'm pulling for them. Plus, NIU is local for me.

Absolutely. When I think of Miles the phrase "Live by the sword, die by the sword" comes to mind. It's won him a lot of huge games with a few inexplicable losses along the way.

The something crazy you mentioned is usually great players making great plays. I think the confidence and trust he clearly inspires in his players is a big part of why those kids have pulled so many rabbits out of the hat.

Great plays, sure. But Miles has escaped quite a few times because of opponents' mental mistakes like running out the clock with no timeouts. A recent Tennessee game comes to mind, though I don't remember the year.

Oh dont get me wrong, I'm no Miles fan or anything but you cant help but admire the spectacle from a distance.

Its funny you mentioned that Tennessee game because thats exactly the game that came to my mind as well. One of the stranger endings to a football game I've watched.

Yep! On Espn yesterday, both Holtz and May said USC would probably keep him around to ride out the upcoming sanctions, then get somebody else if he still sucks.

WOW....I don't usually say this, but i'm going to now...

the ref in the Mich-South Carolina game absolutely CHEATED (THAT IS CHEATED, CHEATED, CHEATED) South Carolina....there was a measurement on Mich's 4th down try and the measurement was clearly short...AND THE REF GAVE THEM THE 1ST DOWN ANYWAY...unbelievable....blatant.

sooooo, what happened next?...jedeveon Clowney delivered the hit of the century....blew off the running back's helmet, caused a fumble, and then picked it up.

talk about poetic justice....but that ref should never be allowed near a football field again.

and i say this as someone who does not care one way or another about SC.
