Right now they are refusing a deal for 2015 with NU since Nebraska is offering the 2-and-1 deal for 600k they offer by their own rules to non BCS teams. Boise wants 1-and-1 and 1M (rightfully so). Looks like the games will not happen and the fans miss out. |

Now I still don't know if the rankings are all they're cracked up to be--but the way they're talking about this group, it sounds phenomenal.
And on another note, please let this come to pass.
A plant by any other name...
Roddick A Knoxville attorney has filed paperwork seeking to rename a local waste water treatment plant in honor of Lane Kiffin.
Drew McElroy paid $262 and filed an application with the Knoxville City Council Public Properties and Facilities Naming Committee to rename the Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant as the Lane Kiffin Sewage Center.
"It dawned on me -- Lane Kiffin told us that he hoped the fans would understand. I thought, 'Well, naming the wastewater plant for him would let him know, I think very clearly, we do understand,' " McElroy told WBIR-TV, a local NBC affiliate. "We want to memorialize his stay here, and I think this would be doing it appropriately."
According to WBIR, McElroy wrote that he wanted "to honor our recently departed head coach and raise awareness of the good work done by the Knoxville Utilities Board."
The committee hasn't set a date for its next meeting, but McElroy said he intends to follow through. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4840383

Pete Carroll to the Seahawks, where I hope he does well...
Which gets him out of USC, where he has been too darn good...
Bringing Lane Kiffin to USC, where the rest of the PAC-10 will finally have a coach they can truly dislike, which was tough to do with Carroll who is a decent guy.
With any luck Kiffin won't do as well at USC, we can freely loathe him, and the conference will open up a bit!
Meanwhile, the rebuilding at my alma mater continues as we we recover from a 1-11 season.

We were both in the gifted program and thus were in a lot of classes together. He's smart (has a law degree), not a jerk (unlike most of the football jocks in H.S.), and a very driven person. If he gets some good assistant coaches he could revive the UT program to national prominence.
It's going to take him a while to clean up the recruiting mess left by Kiffin, but I think he'll be a great coach. Of course, he'll look pretty good by comparison to Kiffin though that's not saying much. He worked under Saban, who I don't care for personally but is one hell of a good coach.
My biggest problem is that now I will feel compelled to root for Tennessee (except when they play Georgia). It will be a while though before I stop cringing every time I hear "Rocky Top." |

Anyone want to make any EARLY conference predictions? I don't know that I'm quite ready, but surely someone is brave enough!
By the way...Boise St. vs Virginia Tech on Sept. 6. How big will that be?!?!!!!

I've been a Boise State fan for the past like 5 years and watch them whenever they're on, so long as they're not competing against UF, and I really want them to do well and get some of the national recognition I feel they've earned in spades.
That being said I'm going to go ahead and say the SEC will retain it's dominance. I think U. Tenn will be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC again in 2-3 years or so, depending on this new coaches recruiting abilities. I'll be moderately surprised if USC pulls out an 8 win season now that Lol Kiffin is coaching there, but then again it is the PAC-10.
Who knows, it's a whole new season in a couple months, and it's wide open, so here's hoping for a good season.

With as many rule violations as USC has been involved in, and deserves to be hit with (not even counting Kiffin's), you would be had pressed to convince me that he is decent.
Agents and runners allowed in locker rooms and on sidelines, players given uncapped credit cards, several recruiting violations. And then he lied about it, and then changed his story to "I didn't know it was going on" and finally to "I didn't know it was against the rules."

I understand that USC got caught, but anybody who thinks that this is somehow terrible beyond the norm is being seriously naive. One thing's for sure: Major colleges are actually better off having several athletes run afoul of the law than they are having a few athletes commit NCAA infractions.

At least the AD of an SEC school will look good on his resume when he goes looking for another job.

-Mike | LMAO!
I'm a lifelong Dawg fan, so I'm hating how this will hurt my team, but man -- what a mess! What an idiot!
I guess if you're going to go down in flames, you might as well go holding some chick's panties. Hey, at least they were school colors.
Might not hurt us too bad for recruiting though . . . |

I honestly believe Carroll didn't know about much of what was going on. The head coach does NOT follow individual players off the field - he has other things to do. He gets the blame, but more than he deserves. I haven't seen the stories about the "I didn't know it was against the rules". I've listened to an interview with an ex-coach I trust who knows the PAC-10, and I believe his assertion that the head coach learns about a lot of this stuff after it occurs.
But I do know that unlike Cal, during the past couple of seasons when WSU has been terrible, USC didn't run up the score when they could have. They even changed their offense to minimize the run-up. His decisions on the field were classy.
So we may disagree, but I'm not going to consider Carroll a bad guy.
And USC's bad luck is a great leveler for the rest of the conference during this transition period...not a bad thing unless you're a USC fan.
