Sorry, Dr Stankface, but we have to keep this thing moving forward!
Let's discuss this upcoming weekend! I for one am glad to have a bye week! I'm expecting the Tide to be back full speed in two weeks and deal LSU another blow!

Other than that, I'm looking forward to Florida - Georgia, which could be a lot more entertaining than some might think.
This is also do or die for Auburn. They have to beat Ole Miss or things just might implode there. The vitriol against the coaches is getting really bad. Depth issues are one thing, but Auburn is getting beat right out of the gate in these last few games, as if the coaches don't have the team ready at all. To make matters worse, Iowa State, Gene Chizik's previous head coaching job, has posted 5 wins already this season under their new coach. It took Chizik two full seasons to get 5 wins there. It's making many people think that Chizik just doesn't know how to be a head coach, and that he should probably stick with being a defensive coordinator. The natives are restless on the plains. Auburn really needs to win another game this season other than Furman. So who will they beat? Ole Miss, Georgia, or Alabama?

The issue is that Cody should have been called for an infraction because he removed his helmet, giving UT another 15 yards and a chance to re-kick their field goal. Equally as loud is Kiffin's comments that his team was over penalized because the refs were somehow out to get them, and the only reason he kicked that last field goal when he did was because he was afraid of trying to move the ball further down the field as it could have meant another "magical flag".
There is a lot of evidence pointing to how stupid Kiffin is this season, but IMHO this one game takes the cake for exposing him.
First, they were called for 8 penalties. Here are those 8 penalties:
1) 6:20 in the 1st Qtr, falst start - 5 yards. Painfully obvious penalty.
2) 4:48 in the 1st. Bama's ball. Pass interference - 8 yards. Also painfully obvious.
2nd Quarter, no penalties! Wow!
3) 3rd Quarter - Javy is returning the ball, and there is an illegal block below the waist. This was replayed on live television in plain daylight.
4) 3rd Quarter - Delay of game against the Vols. Easy penalty to call
5) Early 4th Quarter - False start against the Vols. Another easy call.
6) Soon after, holding against the Vols. Holding calls are the most subjective call in football. It's really up to the refs to call them when it impacts the play. It's where a ref can really be liberal or conservative, yet this is the ONLY holding call against UT the entire game. Interesting.
7) Roughing the kicker. Punt was away, and a Vol player did a Pete Rose dive through the kickers leg. Easy call, and it gave us 15 yards and a first down. The Ref's should have let this one slide!
8) Final penalty, another false start. Easy to see, easy to call.
Surely all this evidence proves that the refs had it out for Tennessee, right? After all they are the least penalized team in the country! No way they could have had so penalties. It's a conspiracy!
The final accusation is the one regarding Cody. Gard commented on it earlier, as it's easier to just assume that Kiffin is right when you share a common enemy in the Tide. The picture below puts everything in perspective.

The comment about kicking the FG because he was afraid to move it further down the field sealed the deal for me on this guy. He is an idiot. UT should admit the mistake now and get rid of him before he fubar's next season too.

Kansas State at Oklahoma this week. With Bradford gone this has really turned into a rebuilding year, so I'll be curious to see how we do without him here. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Apr 2001 Location: berkeley, ca | | the florida/georgia game is at the same time as the cal-at-asu game. when this happened last (the florida/arkansas and cal/ucla games), the managers at the bar looked at me like i had a second head when i asked if they could put on "my" team. well, i have thin skin, so i'm just not going to deal with that this weekend and go to a place a bit out of the way. ...plus, there's a chance i'll have some georgia fans to banter with.
as far as the florida/georgia game, i'm about as worried as i was before arkansas (as opposed to, say, lsu). definite potential for a loss--especially given the way the offense has played--but i think we pull off the win. the only time to my knowledge that cox and the dawgs had a great showing was against arkansas... at night! the ginger ninja's only W during a day-game was against vanderbilt.
the game is going to resemble neither the 2007 nor 2008 games. it's like a mix-n-match of 2007 florida offense (perhaps degraded a bit) with the 2008 defense (depending on the status of the defensive line and spikes) going against... well... a georgia team that hasn't pulled it together. then again, the 2007 georgia team didn't have it together, either.
also looking forward to usc-at-oregon (tough to win at autzen!) and texas-at-oklahoma state. i picked oregon and ok state in my college pick'em thing. |

Next, and this is quite funny, is that after all Lane's whining about the ref's not throwing a flag against Cody for taking his helmet off following the blocked fieldgoal, there is a video and photo evidence of a Tennessee player removing his helmet in celebration following the onside kick that Tennessee recovered. A flag also was not thrown on this play. Of course, had it been thrown, it would have meant that Tennessee would have been backed up another 15 yards on their subsequent possession, so it may or may not have affected the game. I just find it rather ironic. You'd think Kiffin would feel like a baffoon at this point, but I doubt he has the mental capacity for that.
Here's a photo:

I mean, look how they hung in there with Auburn!
