Hrm. Cool, but essentially useless in places that lacks an abundance of small-plane landing strips.

These things usually dont pan out very well. Planes are good at being planes, and cars are good at being cars. The hybrid of both fails at everything.

That's why it's essentially a plane that's wings fold up.

For now...

I think the biggest problem with flying cars will not be so much making a car that can fly, but more realistically, regulating traffic/airspace and when/where these flying cars will be allowed to fly. Theres an entire infrastructure that will need to be created before flying cars can realistically be implimented.

That's also a very good point, where I grew up aircraft were and still are the only meas of traveling further that the edge of town, most cars never leave the town.

Bingo. And air rage must be a bit more dangerous than road rage.

I dunno why, the F/A-18 has folding wings, as did most planes in WWII that were launched off carriers. Folding wings have been around for about 70 years now.

O_o

Nobody but you said it was a world first. The article specifically mentions that the concept has been around for some time now, what is a first, at least according to the article, is that it's actually feasible enough to go into commercial production.

i also have never flown in a plane with folded wings. I didn't say it was not a good idea, but the concept makes me nervous. It's the one more thing that can go wrong principal, I guess.
