Original plan to pop the question to my hopefully soon-to-be best half was blown out of the water due to an auto accident my future mother out-law had.

So, had to change my plans. Next good opportunity is my birthday this Wednesday, so I'm going to pop the Q then, so she won't even be thinking about me doing that.

Would like to know how either you were proposed to or if there is something you as a woman think is creative/romantic or special. One thing I'm not going to do is do it at a dinner. That is sooooo cliche.

Help!

As a lady, I'd say cliche is good, but if you want her to not be expecting it, I'd say just propose in her in front of as many people as possible. Then she'll be super congratulated and she wont have to tell as many people. Also, still to do it on one knee is amazing.. imo.
Really, it's the proposal that matters, not how you do it.
-My opinion, of course.

A friend proposed to his girl just this weekend over dinner. He prearranged with the waiter to drop the ring into a glass of wine. When his girl picked up the glass to have a sip, there was the ring. It was a really cool moment.

You should know sort of how a woman expects to be proposed to before proposing. Some want the big creative outlandish expensive proposals in front of 100,000 people, others would rather you just propose while sitting on the couch at home. Just remember, the moment is special because of the engagement, not the other crazy stuff that happens before it. My wife was happy I didn't do anything crazy. Nice restaurant, just slid the box across the table when she wasn't paying attention.

You would'nt believe how many women melt in a good way-when a man drops to one knee before the proposal is uttered...Do it, man!

Not all of us can afford to have the scoreboard lit at a game, or a stunt plane writing letters across the sky. Meh.

Count me as a guy who blew it on the whole romantic, highly planned thing. I did catch her off guard, at least.

And she still said yes (28 yrs ago).

But she still occasionally tells folks about my lame proposal.

+1 !!!

My husband proposed after dinner, just the two of us there. He hadn't even gotten a ring yet.......figured I would want to be in on picking it out. I would have hated it if it had been some crazy spectacle. But other women might love it to be proposed to in a more spectacular way.

Does she like surprises, or does she prefer to have advance warning of things?

Personally, I would want it on a day where no other special events are happening such as a birthday, holiday etc. becausethere would be two main focusses If someone proposed to me on their birthday I would be torn between wanting to celebrate JUST him and wanting to celebrate an engagement.

I proposed on the 1st anniversary of our first date.

We went out to dinner, no special arrangements, no pre-purchased ring, nada. It was a nice place, they sat us in the back by ourselves, strictly by chance. About half way through dinner they seated a father/daughter couple near us. Everything was going well until that moment.

It must have been an ugly divorce, because dad was calling the ex-wife all the nasty words in the book, including the ones my wife defines as "unforgivable." The mood left the room in a hurry.

So, on the way out, I stopped her in a little sitting/overlook area and popped the question. It was the longest 1/2 second of my life before she said yes.

Now we laugh about it all, but at the time I was highly unpleased & stressed.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm only 14 but it seems to me that. I wouldn't do it on my birthday, if I was a girl and someone proposed on their birthday it would seem if I wasn't quite ready it would be a total let down for him.

My 2 cents

This.

My wife picked out her engagement ring, but it had to be resized to her (size 4!) finger so I had some time to plan something. Ended up with this:

Definitely tailor to your girl. Does she like big surprises or does she prefer softer more romantic moments? In either case, I wouldn't do it on a holiday, birthday, or a day with any sort of big event - it would seem to kill the impact IMHO.

In any case, best of luck man

since me and my hubs both drive buses, Eric asked in a 10 wheeler Crown Supercoach I was driving at the time. I loved that bus, 5 speed manual and so slow LOL...it's crushed now though.

That was 9 years ago

Yeah, not sure about the birthday thing. I think may be better for it to be its' own day.

Also whatever you do, don't say this:

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

Good Luck,
S

I wrote the question in the sand in a secluded spot in Laguna beforehand. Then came home and acted like we were going to walk our dog there so we could stumble upon it. My best friend, guarded the writing from people and then disappeared when he saw us coming. When my wife saw it, she started crying, and then I took a knee and proposed. She was bawling so hard, I thought she was going to say 'no'. She said yes and all was well until our dog Nino ran after another dog and gave my wife's shins rope burn ( it was one of those extendo leashes). She still married me though, and has scars on her shins to remind her
