tis the season!
i have kind of a weird situation...i don't have particularily think or dense facial hair, but it's way out of bounds. i can grow hair up to about a centimeter below my eye. so no matter what kind of beard i grow, i still have to shave a good portion. only recently my moustache has come in thick enough to match my cheeks (annoying, i wish it was the other way around), so i've decided to start growing again.
ok well i always end up ruining my beard and shaving completely when i try to define a cheek line. i think i want to define a line starting from the corners of the mouth that's parallel to the jawline. i've tried it before and its extremely aggravating trying to get it. i've tried taking a ruler to my face and drawing a line with an eye pencil - but the line is never right. its never straight, and i can't get the two sides anywhere close. does anyone have any secrets for beard shaping?

I can never get it even. Here's what I do: trim a little bit, then check it out. Then trim a little bit more, and check it again. If you don't quite take enough off, you can do a bit more, but if you take too much off... well, it'll grow back eventually. So just get it close, then stop before you f it up.
And keep this in mind: life is an uneven proposition. If your beard demonstrates that to a slight degree... well, that's life!

I would fade the edge rather than carving a tight line. Use a beard trimmer at the lowest and second-lowest settings. That way it will look more like a natural hairline rather than some pervy/douchey vain grooming. |

You're young, or you wouldn't be asking this question; keep working on it & just about when you're old enough that you don't care & no one is checking you out anymore, it will click. My experience, anyway.

Just do it slowly and carefully, do a little bit each time and keep checking. If your beard is thick and bushy make sure you trim down the area you want to shave first. |

If you are not sure how far to go, use your finger or a comb to see how the line would look at certain height.
