Need to buy a new tv what way to go?

Limited to a 50" size. No 3-D. So Plasma, LCD, LED?

I think the light engine is shot in our 50" DLP and that could cost close to $1000

Is $1,000 taking it to a shop? I had an inverter go out on my LCD. Found a rebuilt part and fixed it myself for less than $100.

I'm jaded on the longevity of modern TVs. I'm loathe to spend too much on something I know probably won't last that long.

I think it's $500 after you return the core but here's one for $320.

If the room is bright, I'd go LED, if not Plasma is a winner too. LED will be a littler thinner if that matters. I really like the Samsung's for either.
