Need help with Audacity

So, I'm trying to use Audacity to slow down a Coltrane recording for a transcription I'm working on, but when I import the mp3 into Audacity, it plays through the entire song in less than a second. I can't find anything in the help section that mentions this happening.

How do I import an mp3 into Audacity so that it plays at normal speed?

got me.....also.......for a transcription? your gonna have a hell of a time ONCE you slow it down, because unfortunately audacity doesn't keep the pitch correct

Make sure you are importing an MP3 and not some other file type that Audacity does not support. I had this problem with the apple file type from iTunes.

+1 to scorpionldr, try a program called transcribe instead.

Like most audio editing programs, Audacity can change speed without altering pitch.

You got it. It's the Apple file type. I tried it on some Tupac and it worked fine. I didn't catch it because they both came out of my iTunes folder, but I had originally LimeWired Tupac but burned Trane off the record. Downloaded the Coltrane tune and now it's working fine.
