Need HELP with Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird...

Sign in to disble this ad
Where are all the profiles, bookmarks, mailboxes, etc. stored?

What I want to do is put these things in a central location and have preferences point to them so that everything appears identical no matter which home network machine I'm using.

THANKS,

You can export the bookmarks into an HTML file and have that accessible on a shared drive. However you'll have to do this every time you change something, I don't know of a way to move the bookmarks to a shared drive to access them real time.

As far as Thunderbird, I would think it's the same. You won't be able to put your mailbox on a shared drive. This is why I use Gmail. It's the same on whatever computer you use.

Depends what operating system you're using. In linux they're in .mozilla-firefox in your home folder. In windows it's in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ because windows is stupid

Yep, I'm using Windows.

Do you know where in Firefox I can specify set a path to the profiles?

Completely close firefox, then start it with:
firefox.exe -profilemanager
which will launch the profile manager. From there you should be able to set the path to the profile.

Oh, and if you haven't already, go to
about:mozilla
in your address bar (no http, no www, just as written).

THANKS,

That seems to be what I'm looking for. I'll know for sure when I get home tonight and try it out.

Sign up to Google and use Chrome as the syncing browser?

I wasn't aware of this until I set up a new computer and logged in with Chrome. Bookmarks and preferences imported automatically. I think you have to add the extensions yourself, though.
