So I'm almost done with Bioshock 2 (finished the first about a week ago), and I love games like it. The Half Life series was awesome, Portal 1 and 2 were challenging and addicting, but I really don't like Calls of Doobies or any of the fratboy fodder (halo etc). I want games that make me think, that have a good story to them, I won't beat them in a few hours, and are for PC. Don't really care to much about multiplayer as my internets is stupid slow so I leave that to friends PS3's or 360's. Oh and Fallout (haven't played New Vegas yet, but its on my list) was fun too. I really don't care for mythical or fantasy games (no WOW, dragon this or that or the like). I like first person shooters with a good story I guess.
So please, recommend so more to me! |

| | | | Well no wonder you hate Halo, you don't play multiplayer. But yeah, Yawn of Duty is bad no matter what game mode.
Also, the Assassin's Creed series fits your description perfectly. I'd recommend the second game or Brotherhood. What platform are you on? |

The witcher 2 is apparently very good (PC exclusive)

I don't have the funds or the time for a 360 or a PS3. I have played Assassin's creed a few times. Much fun indeed. Quote:

"i need you to kill this guy for me. he's 2 maps (2 VERY LONG loading screens) away from here with a ****ton of enemies and creatures on the way. i'll pay you a bunch of money a pittance"
-pass through area 1, kill all the enemies, collect all the loot
-get to area 2. die 5 times fighting the boss after taking out his 35 minions (I COUNTED.). kill boss, take valuable almost useless loot. time to go back.
-go to area 1. WHY THE **** DID ALL THE ENEMIES RESPAWN? i killed EVERYONE (this happens throughout the ENTIRE game. everywhere.)
-finish mission. get cash and XP. spend 3/4 of money on ammo since high level enemies are basically bulletproof.
i foolishly endured this for weeks. SPOILERS the end was a disappointment.
-"oh great i killed the giant interdimensional monster thing. now what?"
-"well, if you want to explore the areas (with respawning enemies) you could go back, but there's not much to do."
-"oh... well what if i don't want to do that?"
-"i suppose you could start back at the beginning of the game with your current level/XP/weapons/etc"
-"sweet! i could practically walk through the stages given my current high level, right?"
-"actually all the enemies will be high level, so it's like starting a new game; just more challenging."
-"this disc is going in the microwave." /SPOILERS
but hey, that's just how I felt...
i'm looking at getting either New Vegas or LA Noire next depending on what i get for all the old games i trade in.

but hey, that's just how I felt... | I guess you're not a fan of dungeon crawler/H&S RPG's? Because it took Diablo/Dungeon Siege style general gameplay (Class based RPG, emphasis on lootz) and fused it very well with FPS combat in my opinion.
Thing about it is you have to enjoy the journey, killing enemies along the way and finding rare goodies is not just a small part of the game, its basically were all the fun is. I can imagine plenty of people would find it incredibly tedious, I thoroughly enjoyed it however.

I can imagine plenty of people would find it incredibly tedious, I thoroughly enjoyed it however. | The drug of playing just long enough to get another level and the gamble of wasting time trying to get the ultra loot. I Played this game to death and even bought all of the DLC.
It's definitely fair to call the missions repetitive and tedious though, and the story was non-existent. I wouldn't recommend it for someone wanting a decent story.
I think the best way to get a ton of great stories on the PC is to get a ps-one emulator (I've never tried this because I have my old PS and a PS3) and start downloading all the old RPGs. So many of the great stories that began to take games from diversion to decent narratives are found in that generation.
Also, if you liked fallout, get 1 and 2 for cheap. The graphics are certainly dated, but the completely open-ended nature of these games (more nuanced karma and decision making than in fallout 3) can really work your brain and keep you thinking about the relativism of morality.

When I got a companion in that game, I didnt know what I was doing, and walked down "The Strip" and my companion killed everyone O.O I lost all my fricken reputation that took me 2 weeks to build in the course of 2 minutes.... Dont trust companions in that game.

But as far as a fun game to play, and explore...this was a favorite in the genre.
