Need Plane Ticket and Car Rental Advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I need advice for buying some plane tickets and renting a car in March.
It will be a 1 week trip, no longer than 10 days.
We wanted to travel Sunday to Sunday, but those tickets seem higher than, even, Saturday to Sunday.
I checked Monday to Monday, and they were a little lower.
Wondering what the cheapest days are to fly. We have a LITTLE wiggle room on the days, but need to START on Sunday or Monday, then can go up to the Tuesday after the following, if that makes sense. 10 days.
I usually just use CheapTickets.com, but wondering what everyone else uses. I usually rent a car with the same website.
Is it worth it to use a travel agent?
I would appreciate any savvy tips or suggestions.
Thanks!

S.

When I went to Georgia for business I booked my flight, hotel, and car rental via a travel agent.
They got me the lowest price room & airfare-wise, but the car rental ended up coosting a lot more than originally figured due to all kinds of fees the agent was not privvy to.
None of it was out of pocket, though, so it didnt bother me too much.

I just checked, and Tue-Tue seems way lower.
Now, what about rental car tips?

Depending on the destination the weekend will be much cheaper (cars getting turned in on Friday in the midwest non ski areas) or more expensive in vacation destinations (miami, san diego, etc.).

Kayak will search tons of places. When I travel for personal use I use expedia for everything because its easy. Usually the weekly price is good, but watch to see what that does for the extended days if you need them. I can always find a midsize/fullsize car around $20-$30 per day + all the stupid fees. I know a lot of folks that love priceline for cars but NOT plane tickets. Most likely you'll get the rental company who's lot is off terminal, but if you want cheaper price who cares. My friend has never paid more than $10 per day for a PT Cruiser in San Diego.

Be sure to check that your current car insurance covers you. If so, bypass the insurance and never pre-pay for the fuel, just be sure to fill it up. Look for gas stations on the way out of the terminal or use a smartphone app.
