Some of you may know that I have a bunch of useless and goofy videos on YouTube that highlight my lack of talent.
I found that putting videos on YouTube is probably the best way to get the denizens of the interweb to post stupid stuff, racial insults, negative remarks, etc. Stuff like that doesn't bother me. If anything, I like the opportunity to hurl insults back sometimes.
I don't delete negative comments because I believe that folks have the right to their opinion. And if their opinion is that I suck, hey they have a right to it.
So anyone have any experience with stuff like this? What do you do? |

What's the point? It kind of bugs me when people post videos of themselves screwing about. There's some great stuff up on Youtube, but having to sift through all of the bad stuff gets to be a chore. Now don't get me wrong - I understand that some people post not-so-great performances because they honestly want to be critiqued in order to improve. That's fine, but I suspect that for most people the video postings are made simply to satisfy some egotistical need. As far as I'm concerned, if you're posting videos on Youtube you're fair game. |

As useless as they are, for some reason people subscribe to my junk. |

but if its racial, bigoted, unbelievably ignorant, etc., delete it and report it. no sense in letting idiots roam free on the internets. |

I have a few videos dealing with macs/iphones, and that just brings out a lot of "MACS SUCK! WINDOWS RULES!" or simply "YOU SUCK! You're a moron for liking the iphone". I just take it with a grain of salt and move on. If there's constructive criticism I'll take heed, but the slanderous comments just humor me and then I forget about them. It's just another instance of anonymity resulting in inflated egos and pointless fighting. |

My kids put up a few videos, one of them launching a model rocket, another of them making a baking soda plastic bottle "bomb" thingie as a science project. I was amazed at how many people posted negative and downright mean stuff. I dont get it... if someone doesn't like the video, then why even bother watching it?? sheesh

My daughter has been posting videos of herself singing and playing guitar. She is a beginner and has benefited from some of the comments (she's taught herself guitar secretly!). Thankfully the few horrible ones haven't affected her, but I worry she will be upset by some weirdos.

So - on occasions, I have searched for some live footage, based on comments I have heard on TB or elsewhere - then get directed to a Youtube video - which turns out to be somebody playing badly over the top of the original album recording...
It's very annoying when you think you are going to find some great live footage and then find this kind of rubbish - it's what makes Youtube a huge waste of time and very frustrating to use!!

As it happens I think my daughter is a great singer - what do you mean ... of course I'm not biased??? .... and a developing guitartist and song writer ... YouTube obviously motivates her.

IE - everyone gets a chance to be in the public eye, or post their own videos to share with friends/family etc etc?
Just the nature of the beast, no need to be mean to those who post something that you, me or another may find useless, just move on until you find something that may appeal to you.

Just the nature of the beast, no need to be mean to those who post something that you, me or another may find useless, just move on until you find something that may appeal to you. | Personally I have never posted a rude comment as I would feel this to be a further waste of my time - but I have shouted at the screen and been very annoyed at all the stuff that looks like it might be worth watching and isn't...
So I was just saying I can understand why people get angry and want to take that out on the object of their frustration.
I think it's understandable - it's like on TB when you see a thread title that looks interesting, but is actually just very badly worded - but YouTube is on a vaster scale!!
The other thing that seems strange to me - is that when I was starting out playing, I was shy about playing for close relatives in case of them appearing "underwhelmed" - to put it up for the whole world to see, would have been unthinkable - beyond embarassment to a new level of humilation!! I can't imagine doing that...
